Lifting scenes from homemade dvd

Post by Peeay »

I copied an 8mm home video to DVD. It is 35 minutes long and has in it about 10 unrelated segments. I wish to take one of those segments out of the DVD to use in further work (such as adding together similar segments from a dozen other DVDS in my video archives. Can I simply playback that multi-segment DVD and capture that segment of my interest?

It's quite simple -- pop the DVD into your computer, and let UVS load the disk contents, and select the scene(s) you wish to import into your current video project.

In UVS7, you have to change the capture plugin to "DVD/DVD-VR" (done through the Tools menu), then go to Capture, and click on Capture Video. In UVS8, the process is much simpler -- there is a new "Insert DVD/DVD-VR" menu item when you click on the "Open Folder" icon in the bottom left corner of the timeline window that is used to add assets to the current project.

If your DVD contains a single scene instead of one scene for each of the original video segments, load that, then use the Mark In / Mark Out feature to select the section you want, and render that to a new file on your harddisk.
