VS2018 corrupting files/saving issue?

Post by Slapierre »

Hey guys, it has happened twice now and enough to piss me off after loosing a couple hours of work.

It seems to be random, when I open a project I was working on previously there are random clips (Audio and Video so far) that has lost their segment. IDK if I'm making sense , check out the picture I circled the issue. It should normally have the segment I wanted to be but it's gone and can't play anything. So I basically have to start over again.

I think it is safe to say it happens when saving the project. Corel was previously closed normally so it shouldn't be a hard shutdown or anything like that.

Any chance I can load an earlier save file than the last one?

Right now I'll use two sepparated save file...

It never happened with VX 9, any input appreciated.

Thanks.

Here's a working video clip, you can see the segment on that clip I used in the editor, same project where other clips have lost their segment.

It's like every clip plays for their entire duration or even more instead of the part I wanted. Audio is lost and it most likely freeze after a couple seconds. From how I see it, it's like some clips loose their properties. A 5 minutes project turns to an hour or two.

Hi
Yes that is a little strange

Can you give us the properties of that clip. Right click for properties.
Create an image of that panel, will be small enough to attach to your post.

Some variable frame rate video files can cause problems for video editors as the timeline must be a constant rate, generally 25fps 50p for pal and 29.97fps for ntsc

Are your project properties set to the same settings as your video files?

In this project I only used video files with the same setting (so far) but usually combine gopro with my dslr. DSLR fps are set to 25 while gopro can go up to 120.
Some segment of a single clip works while others don't.
Also, how to explain the issue happening to an audio file?

With this said, you pointed something up that could be the issue. My project setting was set to 120 fps which should be set to 30. I'll start with that.

Is there anything else off with those settings?

Thanks for the reply, much appreciated !

Hi
The video properties look ok to me, I would expect seeing the message to match the project properties when adding these to the timeline, that would set the frame rate to 25fps.
Although they are Mov I think VS will set PP as Mpeg4. All other settings should match.
If your first clip is 120fps then that will take precedence.
Could be a little tricky mixing 120 and 25 fps, besides the 120 being NTSC not Pal.

Adding a 25 fps video to a 120 fps project, video studio will add 4 duplicate frames for each frame to retain the length / duration of the clip.
Navigate the timeline frame by frame and count the duplicates, simply press keyboard "F"

The 120 mix may be the cause of the missing clip as your first post.

Alright, so I have managed to put back the broken parts together by changing the frame rate back to 30. When I switched back to 30 fps VS emptied the cache so it must have been somewhere in there.

Still had to rework the segment a bit as they were all off but at least in order.

My project is ntsc, I don't know why I went with 25P with the dslr. Guess I'll switch it back to 30... As for the project, I have no clue at all why it cranked it all up to 120 as I set it to 30 and 1080p by default.

Anyway, thanks a lot for your input. Glad I can move forward with my project :) !
