Just wondering if it is possible yet, to create/draw circles and/or shapes in VSP, for highlighting elements, drawing attention to elements/areas, etc.
I just purchased VSP2018 and have been having a lot of fun learning it and the differences from older versions. I do see the new Split Screen feature and it seems like it could be a good way to make Circles or Shapes, to highlight different areas of a video/image - is it possible to do so with a similar type of tool in VSP yet? I think it has been on a Wishlist for VSP for some time now, no?
Just asking in case I missed it somewhere so far... I have been playing around and looked in the User Guide as well, but did not as yet, see anything for 'creating shapes/highlights'...
Thanks for any advice
Create/Draw Circles in VSP2018 (for highlighting, etc) ?

For some years now I have been creating all sorts of shapes on transparent backgrounds and simply dropping them into the overlay track then sizing and moving as required.
they can even be used for motion tracking - -- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jBTnYlPf5AM

Hi
Not sure exactly what you wish to do, can you explain a little further.
There are quite a few symbols in the Graphics library most png with transparent backgrounds.
Drag these to the overlay tracks.
You could of course create your own using an image editor. I’ve attached a red ring.
If you wish to highlight text, similar to using a highlight pen, add a colour clip over the text, change its transparency so the text shows through.
Video Studio has a Mask Creator, that may be what you want

I'd be happy to explain further - here is what I was wanting to do:
- have an image, or two images in the scene
- draw a circle with the mouse, over areas to be focused on (differences, similarities, etc) on the Preview Area
- a circle appears in the Preview Area that will be part of the video
The 'circle' element was hopefully something I could just click on a 'SHAPE' button and then literally draw a circle with the mouse/cursor in the Preview area.
[I was hoping it would be even simpler than most graphic editing programs (including PSPro) as they usually make you 'drag out a circle'. Not a huge deal, I don't mind doing it that way (it looks to be that way in the new Split Screen feature) - I was just was hoping that it would be part of VSP 'someday' and wondering if such a thing existed yet, or if I missed where to do it in this way (if it existed)]
Thank you for the Circle Graphic - that was very kind of you - I actually thought of that and made a large circle for my own future use (I created a large, high-resolution (3000x3000) graphic, so that it could be used at any resolution of video (Scaled Down as needed) and thought I could import that as an Overlay, if that's all that could be done).
I was just asking because I saw how the Split Screen feature was so quickly-creating 'circles' and thought that perhaps something like that existed in the program now.
The idea of a highlight of text (as a 'box') is great - I didn't think of that one - thank you!

Thanks for that Mr.C,BrianCee wrote:For some years now I have been creating all sorts of shapes on transparent backgrounds and simply dropping them into the overlay track then sizing and moving as required.

I just saw the 'create a circle' type of thing in the new Split Screen feature and thought perhaps the function existed in PSPro now (and I was not seeing it).
The concept of a 'circle' as an Overlay is fine, if that's the only way to do such a thing, for now [Lata states this concept as well].
I was just wondering if it was possible to 'draw a circle on the preview area to create a circle'. That's fine if not, I am still impressed with VSP and importing Overlays of the types of shapes I want isn't a bad way to go about it.
Thanks again!

Hi
Try using from Tools -- Paint Creator,
you can draw freehand which creates a mask placed in the library
drag that to the overlay track, and that is about as much as i know about P.Creator.
quick sample

Sorry to 'bump' this again, but I wanted to pop back in to say Thank You for showing my Paint Creator - which I had no idea existed in VSPlata wrote:Hi

I was able to create an overlay of 'a circle to highlight something' easily with it!
(Here is an example of a circle created as an overlay, in Paint Creator - all done drawing it right in the 'Preview Area' (of Paint Creator)): Thanks again!
Re: Create/Draw Circles in VSP2018 (for highlighting, etc) ?
Like Troy; I was able to get Painting Creator to draw the image I wanted. Now I want to take it a step further, and add a pen, pencil, crayon, whatever image in PNG format to track the Painting Creator image to make it look like the writing implement is drawing on the video.
It seems like this should be simple; but I'm coming up empty as I'm an occasional VSP 2018 user.

You need to use an Image Editor to create your transparent Png image
Then import to VS overlay track, I would use Customise Motion to move the image around the screen.
The instant Projects have some nice effects, maybe give you some ideas
View IP-03 and IP-12
