PSPX9 Layers Palette Toolbar Issue

Post by sdracup »

Although this forum is for PSP 2018, I thought I would add my notes on PSP X9 Ultimate. Working in my PSP, my layer palette toolbar and layer palette options toolbar, changed to text. The only icons I can see if I make the window larger is the Delete layer trashcan and the New Layer group icon. I did nothing, no updates, no changes. I did reset the both toolbars, and I got the drop down lists, but no icons. Then I shut down and restarted PSP, the text was back. I have also restarted my laptop, and did this again. Same issue. What could possibly cause this, when nothing has changed? I don't have any saved workspaces, so I cannot reset that. Any ideas? Thanks,

Hi sdracup and welcome to the forum.

I have moved your post to a separate topic with a more descriptive title since it was lost in a 7 "page" topic on PSP2018 Update 1.

I've experienced your issue with PSPX9 and also some previous versions. This was reported to Corel but since it's an intermittent issue that doesn't effect all configurations my guess is that it's difficult to replicate, identify and correct.

Like you I reset the toolbars and sometimes it worked and other times it did not. Then, out of the blue, it would correct itself without any input from me.

I might also add that the forum is not exclusively for PSP 2018 (although the thread in which you posted related to it). The forum accepts questions about any version of PSP.

I can only say that this happened to me once - can't remember if it was PSPX7 or X9. I believe the way I fixed it was to reload a previous saved workspace.

I cannot recall having this intermittent problem. Can I ask the OP what the system stats are.
So far I can see Windows 10 and PSP X9
But which versions?
Windows 10 version 1607 or earlier? 1703, 1709 , 1803?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_1 ... on_history
Now PSP X9 which update version -
Update 1 19.0.0.96 ,
Update 2 19.0.2.4
Update 3 19.1.0.29
Update 4 19.2.0.7

This would make at least 16 different combinations . What is the most common one resulting in this problem.
Systems available Win7, Win 8.1,Win 10 Version 1607 Build 14393.2007 & version 20H2 Build 19042.867

These combinations wouldn't apply to me or Kathy. In my case, it has only happened once in all these years, and with one PSP version on Windows 8.1, and I have never had Windows 10. Kathy reports she has had it happen intermittently with various PSP versions and at present she is on Windows 7 Pro, so also not Windows 10. So it doesn't appear to be related to any specific OS or, given Kathy's report, any specific PSP version. But I suspect it is a rare occurrence because definitely rarely reported.

If the OP has a previously saved workspace that didn't have this issue than perhaps reloading that workspace will help.

Try this ...

1.
-> File -> Preferences -> Reset Préferences -> Reset Workspace to default -> OK, close PSP and open it again.

2.
Launch PSP with Shift key down until it asks to confirm. Say Yes.

I know it has been a while, but I got busy doing other things. I tried the resetting, and it worked. Note, that I just upgraded to PSP 2019, and when I first opened it the icons were on the layer pallete toolbar, but after a few sessions, the same thing occurred. I had to do the reset with this version as well, and it worked. Thanks so much for the input. I wonder if the WIN 10 updates are causing this.
