PSP 2018 Won't launch

Post by j3ffr3y »

It worked a couple times after I first installed it, but even then would completely crash ungracefully whenever I clicked on "Save As..." Just an instant shutdown as though it was killed by the task manager. Nothing more frustratinfg than working on a project for an hour and then just completely losing it when you go to save. It's not in the restore cache either.

After the last time this happened, it refuses to launch at all. I've waited up to half an hour and it just gets stuck in the splash screen. And yes, I've rebooted everything. Here are a couple snips along with the task manager showing where it hangs.

Now I have been using PSP since JASC version 3 which was like 30 years ago without any major issues. This version is totally unusable and is $35 down the drain. Oh did I mention I had to raise a support ticket just to get a serial number after I paid for it?

I'd like a resolution please. And "works for me" is not acceptable. In the meantime, I'll happily go back to X9 still installed on the same hardware.

Agreed that "works for me" is not an acceptable or helpful answer. This is a user to user board that is not staffed by Corel personnel so I can only offer suggestions.

You could try resetting your workspace via the Shift method outlined here https://support.corel.com/hc/en-us/arti ... figuration. The article mentions X6 but works for all versions.

If that doesn't work you can open a ticket with Corel. Their contact info is here: https://www.corel.com/en/contact-us/index.html

My PSP2018 often refuses to launch, usually after I've run it once, and exited. I found a workaround that seems to work most of the time; that is, I use File Explorer (AKA Windows Explorer, I think), select an appropriate picture or PSP file, and select "Open With..." (PSP 2018). That has worked very well for the last little while. I use CCleaner to clean up caches and the like before shutting my machine down.

PSP will sometimes continue to run in the background even though you have exited the program. As a result, it will refuse to launch when you try to restart it. If you go into your Task Manager and close the running instance of the program and then try to restart it you should have no issue.

And you will find that "running instance" of PSP in the Background Processes part of Task Manager.

I had the same problem; although this thread is a bit old, I couldn't find an answer.

Earlier this year I purchased PSP2019 Ultimate and installed it without problems in my desktop and my portable (a Microsoft Surface Pro 4). However, I had to send the latter for repair and tried to install PSP2019 in a provisional replacement; it installed OK but refused to launch. After several trials, even reinstalling, I decided to uninstall and then clean the Windows register with CCleaner. After a reboot and clean install, it launched without a problem and I could activate it all right. It's working now. Hopefully this helps anyone with the same problem.

It's strange as this computer was clean from any program from Corel.

Best,

Jorge.
