cropping to guide lines

Post by jayson1945 »

If I have an image and I have guide lines to horizontal (2) and vertical (2) in part of it and I want to crop to those guidelines....I set the guidelines to the exact measurement I want then when I select the crop tool my guidelines jump away some disappear altogether....then just left with the crop grid. I must have a setting wrong somewhere where am I going wrong?

That is strange. My PSP X8 works just fine. The guide lines stay during the whole process. Have you tried it in version X7 ?

I can crop to guides in X7 OK. In PSP 2018 it seems as if the image resizes itself somehow and the guidelines move when crop tool is selected. I have a couple of screen shots that might show what I mean

I'm just throwing this out as a guess, but it wouldn't surprise me if this was another of the unintended consequences of the changes Corel made - unasked - to the Crop tool in PSP2018 and touted it as a feature.

It is not a feature but a bug.
The guides are displaced when crop tool is selected (see the 0 in the rulers).

well that's that then! maybe there will be a patch/update at some time. Now I've got another problem saving as PspImage and opening in other versions. I'll do a separate post on this.

And taking the time to do a search of the forum regarding the crop tool I see that it is a common bug for many users.

I see the same thing as you with the crop tool, but I think the problem goes away if you use the selection tool instead and then pull down the menu selection to 'crop from selection'. when I tried it the guide lines appeared to stay in the same place instead of moving like they do with the crop tool.

I, for one, have stopped using this crop tool because of the ridiculous way it works in PSP2018 and only use the selection tool for cropping now. And, as you said, you can then crop to selection or, something I prefer more often, copy the selection area and paste as new image. If you want to make that last operation a one-click operation (so that it works like the crop tools button that crops as new image) you can just record a simple script that copies selection and pastes as new image and bind it to an icon that can be placed on a toolbar.
