Can't export HEVC in VS2018

Post by netsonicyxf »

When I want to select anything that has HEVC in Share tab->MPEG-4, it shows
Your system does not currently meet the requirements for HEVC. Check
the compatiblity of your graphics card and that you are running the
latest version of the Windows 10 operating system.
while the Nvidia driver is 388.13 and Win10 1709

Do you have hardware acceleration turned on? If so try turning it off.

In win7 I can find this hardware acceleration option, but in Win10, I can't find this any more.

Do you mean that in your VS X10 in Win 10, when you go to Settings > Preferences > Performance, there are not several references down near the bottom of that tab referring to hardware acceleration?

As far as I know, the GTX970 can not export a HEVC format. It was not until the 1000-series it should go. Is not that right?
For me, the GTX1060 is installed. It works!

PS. I believe the minimum system requirement for support of HEVC (H.265) requires Windows 10 and a corresponding PC hardware or graphics card. In the HW it means processor i7-6700 and above (which you would have), or graphics card GTX 10x0.
Which graphics unit is enabled in Device Manager?

@Ken Berry
The hardware acceleration options are all enabled in Settings > Preferences > Performance.

@JWolters
GTX 970 is enabled in device manager.

I think GTX 970 can encoding HEVC, here is a post in tom's hardware forum
http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/i ... t-265.html
"Maxwell GPUs also ship with an enhanced NVENC encoder that adds support for H.265 encoding. Compared to H.264, H.265 compression offers significant bandwidth savings at the same quality level, which will help enable the next generation of streamed gaming experiences within the home or over the cloud."

I know it from Pinnacle Studio, the GTX9xx can'nt HEVC. With the i7-8700K you have a great processor with graphics unit. Connect your monitor there and activate the Intel unit in the device manager. Then it should go with HEVC.
Screenshot shows my device manager preferences.

Interesting.... I've used HEVC to export UHD 4K files at 40Mbps on my hardware.
All the work is done with the CPU.... I haven't noticed any GPU usage on my computer...

So the Fall Creator's update screwed up HEVC -- probably because the patent group wanted $0.99 per windows customer that is using it.

First close VideoStudio 2018.

Then download from the Microsoft Store -- search HEVC. After downloading it you have to launch it at least once and there is a message "Adding to My Stuff".

After that launch VideoStudio 2018 and the HEVC options will appear near the bottom of the list.

OK but exactly what do you search for in MS Store? The first option I get is HEVC Extensions which is from MS, so I assume you are talking about that. It costs around US$1.00 which everyone should be able to afford. (I bought and installed it some time ago and have no trouble editing and exporting HEVC on my current computer.) But I sort of got the impression you might have been talking about something free...

Here is the LINK to download the HEVC extension from MS. I had to do it a while back.
