MiniDV firewire to computer

Post by harrysimpson »

I've got a ADS Instant DVD USB 2 capture device but it just has s video and RCA connectors.

I've got a firewire card and connector between the computer and the digital video recorder....is there a way to grab the video via this connection or does one always have to use the capture device hardware?

I opened MF4 and selected From Movie Camera as source - turn on the camera and get a message saying "No capture driver is available in the system"

The system is a P4-2.8 GIG 200GB HD with 1GB RAM. The movie camera is a JVC MiniDV camera I bought a couple of months ago.

Any help would be great.

you should be able to capture DV footage via firewire. try changing the capture plugin to Ulead DirectShow Plugin.

check adstech if they have a capture plugin patch for dmf4. they previously have a patch for dmf3 so they might release for the new version.

Also, try turning on the camera before you open MovieFactory.
If windows can see the camcorder via the firewire port you should see
it listed under "My Computer" when you open it up and also
going to "Control Panel" -> "Cameras & Scanners". In the "Cameras & Scanners" the device should show up.

If windows doesn't see the device then no program on the computer will either.

Hope this helps,
