VS Pro2018 .MOV Audio

Post by WildlifeBernie »

Just got the new VS Pro2018 and when I insert a .MOV video into timeline, there's no audio...no audio icon and no way to turn it on, only off. Never had a problem with the Ultimate X8 but now I have Win10 and X8 wouldn't work with it. MOV video is from a Canon Powershot Camera. I do get sound from my Sony cam MP4 videos but I really need to create projects using both cameras.

Hoping someone can help me. Thanks!

Welcome to the forum! :D

Can we assume you have the .mov codec installed on your computer? It doesn't come as part of VS 2018.

If you haven't installed it and are worried about Apple's dropping support for it on Windows devices, that relates to a problem with Quicktime player and not the .mov codec. To safely download the latter, go to https://support.apple.com/kb/DL837?locale=en_US and download the Quicktime 7.7.9 package. But on starting the installation, choose Custom and not Typical for the install. Then make sure everything apart from Quicktime Essentials at the top of the list has an X against it. The codec is in effect QT Essentials. See attached image.

I had an old quicktime on my computer and did as you instructed and it has not worked. Still no sound, icon or clip volume. I assume I didn't have to restart my computer?

A reboot of the computer probably wouldn't hurt...

Hi Ken,
I wish that had worked but it didn't. Until a solution is found with this software glitch, I have to convert the .mov into a mp4 and that seems to work. It's frustrating going the extra step. Now I wish I hadn't purchased the VS Pro2018 but just moved up to Ultimate X10 from the X8 I had.

Yes Robert, the videos do play with sound in WMP and Movies & TV. I don't have VLC downloaded. Should I uninstall Quicktime, restart and then install again? Just trying to figure out the why not working. Thanks.

Hi Trevor,
Volume icon isn't showing on clip. I right click and changed volume per your instructions and still no sound. However, on the options panel, the volume shows at 0 and cannot be changed. I did a "print screen" & loaded it in Word & attached. I don't know how to add it as an image. Hope it helps to explain what I'm seeing.
Thanks,
Bernadette

Yes i would try re-installing QuickTime, you only need the codec not the player as Ken's info in his earlier reply

If that does not work, can you upload a sample video to a sharing site, Google Drive, OneDrive etc. we can then try your video on our pc's

Hi Trevor,

I uninstalled and reinstalled Quicktime but it didn't work. I also tried Corel Fastflick and the sound isn't there either.

I've uploaded a sample video and shared at: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1z9GJB ... CZMb8MZ9aI

My Windows Media Player plays it with no problems. Perhaps I need to reinstall the Corel software?

Thanks,
Bernadette

Downloaded clip, plays fine with VLC, imported into VS 2018, no sound, properties indicate no audio, so it would appear that VS does not recognize the audio type
MediaInfo lists audio as PCM, which is not an acceptable format for VS

Hi Bernadette
I can use this video on all versions of video studio except 2018

You should report this to Corel Support

I will also try to escalate the problem tomorrow, a little late now

THANK YOU Trevor! I will definitely contact Corel. That's what I get for getting the newest version before kinks are worked out.
