Cannot Edit Nodes + Cannot Paste Vector Selection

Post by questccg »

I am using version 20.2.0.1 x64 and x32 ... And having a bitching time with Vector objects. I know you can duplicate a Vector into the same layer... But Ctrl + G allows me to select MULTIPLE Vector Object and paste them SIMULTANEOUSLY.

I draw with the PEN tool a simple LINE. I want to do a NODE EDIT... The option is grayed out... WTF has Corel done to PaintShop Pro 2018???

Any news about a FIX for all these problems. Yeah I know there are WORK AROUNDS. But people payed real money ($$$) for software and it's been like 6 months AND STILL NO FIXES?

I'm damn right furious with how the Vector side of the software isn't working as it should be...

I select A LINE and it says TEXT Object?!?! Cannot EDIT a "Text" Object... It's a freaken LINE!!!

That's why I BUY PaintShop Pro because I don't need to use Illustrator and Photoshop for quick Mock-Ups...

Has COREL even proposed some kind of FIX timeline??? I know I've read posts saying the SAME thing. But it's been 6 months already... Isn't that ENOUGH time for a FIX???

Sincerely.

You must create the line as a vector (this option must be checked in the tool settings).
If you want to add a node, press the Ctrl key and when your cursor is over the line, you will see ADD.
If you want to edit the line, right-click on the line and click on "Edit mode".

Your rant is all about Corel fixing bugs. Since this forum is not flooded with threads about the problem you describe suggests this is not what could be called a bug.

- I select the pen tool and have "create on vector selected" (which Jean-Luc mentioned).
- I draw a line with two points; in the layers palette there is a new layer named "Vector 1"
- At this point I see no nodes but if I click on the arrow beside the name of the layer (used to forget about this) and a sub-layer "new path" appears. Selecting this layer allows me to edit nodes.

If you did all this and the nodes are greyed out there may be a problem with your version. Your reference to the Text layer suggests it is a problem. If you follow this forum, the advice that you would have seen most frequently when the action in PSP is abnormal is to reset the program. Save your workspace and close PSP. While holding down the shift key restart the program. Sometimes I need to do that twice but a message should appear asking if you want to reset to factory settings - reply yes. Hopefully this fixes the problem.

It would seem that the OP had to have a venting session and in doing so claim that there was a bug.
The OP apart from saying they drew a line and then could not do a node edit did not provide the steps theye were doing, whether they had had experience with other versions of PSP and how it worked there.
They state" I know you can duplicate a Vector into the same layer... But Ctrl + G allows me to select MULTIPLE Vector Object and paste them SIMULTANEOUSLY." but what this has to do with editing nodes on a straight line has me puzzled, but then I have not worked with the pen tool very much so did a search on adding nodes and came across the advice in the Help files.
Add a node.jpg
So I tested that:
1. selected Pen tool
2. Pen options - Draw Freehand, Create on Vector Ticked, Show Nodes ticked, line width 6 (canvas size 500 pixels square white background. Materials palette Fill color transparent, Line color Red.
3. Click once on the canvas nd a square dot apppears, hovering the cursor over it shows START.
4. Move the cursor some distance away , hold teh shift key down and click and a line appears. The second point now shows END.
5. Click Edit Mode and it becomes a lighter shade of grey. Hovering the cursor over the line and I just get a smll sine wave , no nodes there.
6. Click the line and nothing seems to happen, but if I hold the Control Key down the word ADD appears near the cursor and clicking there produces another grey square - a node. Holding the Control key down and moving along the line and clicking produces a series of nodes.
7. Clicking on a node and dragging it, I can change the shape of the line.
8, Hovering over a node I get a four direction arrow and right clicking gives a context menu where I can change the node type to Assymetric, symmetric and a couple of other choices. I choose Symmetric, and I now have a thin arrow line going across that node. Dragging on the head or tail of that arrow allows me to curve that line.
Without investigating further I am guessing that this is normal behaviour and not a bug.
Can the OP detail the series of steps that shows consistently how this bug appears so that others can attempt to duplicate and confirm any bug like behaviour.
For me a bug , must have consistency and be able to be duplicated on other systems and not a failure of understanding how the tools work.

Oh; wow; I've been struggling with this for weeks. Besides that, it's 10 years since I made vector drawings, and my mid-term memory is rotten

I'll be reading with interest.

Meantime, I've been able to copy/paste ONLY by using Ctrl+C to copy and Ctrl+V to paste. Ctrl+G has not worked for me. I'll catch up reading here before posting more. Wishing you and me lots of luck!

Okay; I've read the thread. I've been using the .PDF user guide (for PSP 2018) as a reference. And have been very frustrated for many days. I learned on the Facebook group "Everything Paint Shop Pro" that those "sublayers" the OP mentioned are in fact objects, rather than layers. I think that's useful terminology. I HAVE to expand layers to see those objects, and click on an object "sub-layer," if I may call it that, before I can right-click on the object and copy and paste. I've ONLY been able to copy and paste as I mentioned in the paragraph above.

The suggestions for adding nodes have worked for me, and changing node types is a wonderful way to make a shape or contour work as you want it to. I find the proliferation of layers (full layers) confusing and not what I expected; on the other hand, I can deal with those.

I'm also having difficulties with "Paste as New Vector Selection." I have not found a way to use the Edit menu (along the top) nor any other Edit Menu, to get that to work; it seems not to work as it has in earlier versions. At least I have work-arounds. But somehow; I'm not sure how, I've had it work a couple of times in PSP2018, by duplicating the contour/shape in the same layer, and then letting me drag it to a new position. Rather than confuse matters more, I'll continue to work and study, but one thing I feel quite sure of, is that either PSP2018 or I, more likely I, is mightily confused.

Paste as new Vector Selection not working is a known bug in 2018. Have not received a response from Corel on it.

Using PSP 2019 v 20.2.0.1 x64 Paste as a Vector Selection doesn't work but a painful work around is to copy the vector object, paste as a new layer and then merge the layers. Is this fixed in PSP 2019?

That is great news that it has been fixed in PSP 2019. However, it would be even better if Corel would post a fix for PSP 2018! The problem can't be thought of as anything other than a bug and should be fixed for PSP 2018 without having to purchase an upgrade to get a fix.
