The only time i have heard of VS 9 crashing was to do with 'Windows installer'

http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic. ... +installer
Search the forum for more info.
it may not be your problem, but worth a look
I am running Win 2k, but cannot use the latest windows installer. when i do my video studio crashes every time i select capture?????????????
For the time being i have un-installed the windows installer program.
Just as a matter of interest,
What capture card do you have if any??

trevor andrew,
The good news is that after Un-Installing Windows Installer 3.1, Ulead capture once again works.
I look forward to the day this issue is resolved.
I am so please with your reply. Only the other day, to install the latest Critical Updates from Microsoft, I was forced to install Windows Installer 3.1, and then found that I could not capture video in UVS9. I had expected that this issue would have been resolved by now, and it scared me to think I could not capture video in Ulead (I love my Ulead Video Studio 9, it would be hard to live without it !).I am running Win 2k, but cannot use the latest windows installer

Ok,thanks for the link.I read all the pages. But i can't find windows installer,as you see

I use a P4 3.0 Prescott,1GB Ram DDR 400 dual channel,HD SATA 160 GB 16MB cache,so i think that it is not the problem.I acquire with a canopus advc-100 directly to mpeg-2,and very often it crash(it gives me the error to report to microsoft). Now i re-install the 8 version and all is ok..
,i can't understand why 9 version crashes..maybe some program-confilct as windows installer?

Hi
In my case the crash occurs:-
1 / from the Capture tab, as soon as I click the ‘capture video option’
2 / When I try to access the ‘Change capture plug-in’ from Tools menu.
I asked what capture card because I have a Ati-Aiw 128 Pro. This card has a TV tuner.
When I select capture video VS 9 automatically selects the TV tuner as my capture source.
At this point it crashes.
I tried VS 9 on another machine using an older capture card without a tv tuner.
On selecting ‘capture video’ I receive a message stating that no capture device is connected, which is true.
The program does not crash, I can then connect the camera via Firewire and capture as normally.
So is my capture card part of the problem?
I agree with you George, its about time Ulead sorted this one.
(I think the version of Windows Installer can be seen from Msi.dll properties-version)
All the Best

Hi Thematrix
If the crashes are not related to the windows installer.
Can you give more details :-
When does the crashes occur, during capture, edit, rendering?????????
What are you doing when it crashes.
THoff asked :-
The ADVC-100 outputs a DV stream, so are you transcoding on-the-fly to MPEG2? Are you actually crashing, or is the capture stopping?
What are your system specs?
Give more details and someone will help, but we have little to go on.

The crashes occur sometimes during capture..after a random time and when it occured when i restart the program and "try" to click capture button it crash immediatly and everytime i want to capture afetr fist crash.I am only capturing, there aren't any program active when i capture(to obtain max free memory). What are you doing when it crashes.Yes i trascoding on the fly,and when it crash capture stop.Sometimes silently, sometimes with classical error to report to miscro$oft. The ADVC-100 outputs a DV stream, so are you transcoding on-the-fly to MPEG2? Trevor,
>>So is my capture card part of the problem?

I use ATI cards to capture from, using ATI & ulead.
What Catalyst (video & capture drivers) & MMC are you running?
Older Catalyst driver's don't work with other programs.
It's alot to do with ATI's capture drivers and also if you have
dual screens enabled when trying to capture.
ATI focuses the Primary Display, so you can't access the capture module
in the "Extended Desktop". Only use the Primary Display for capturing with
ulead or the ATI software for when extended desktop is active.
That is one error, but doesn't crash VideoStudio.
The other error is an error that does crash VideoStudio and ulead has
worked on that problem way back. ATI's software was the problem.
It's in accessing of the sound card.
A crash is usually the ATI audio interface.
The ATI "Threatre Audio" drivers conflict with some programs.
Some of my audio apps would crash because of the ATI audio drivers.
I've found a Catalyst & MMC that works and have stayed with that.
Updates are usually to fix game bugs.
Switched to Nvidia for the most part.
Hope this helps,
MD

Hi Maddrummer
Thanks for the info.
My graphics / capture card is Ati AiW 128 Pro Agp.
I have W2KR128513013279.exe driver installed
But at the moment have not installed the MMC (MMC72noDVD.exe).
The annoying thing is that this Windows Installer conflict is only when using VS 9.
Using VS 7 or 8 I have had no capture problems.
There have been occasions when my audio would lock up, usually when I have done multiple captures, switching between camcorder and tv tuner seemed to be the cause. The audio would keep playing from my tv tuner even though I close Video Studio. Usually I have to reboot my pc, but by selecting a different capture source I could sometimes cure the problem.
So what ati driver have you installed that has worked for you, If compatible I don’t mind trying another driver. I’ve tried most drivers anyway.
Thanks Again
All the Best Trevor

Hi,
>>The audio would keep playing from my tv tuner even though I close
>>Video Studio.
I have used the ATI software to capture with extensively. Very nice.
Shows dropped frames and multi-tasks very well. Also, programmable
mpeg modes etc.
If I forget to shut the 2nd monitor off and go into the ulead capture module it crashes and the audio continues to play.
If I open the TV tuner program it resets the audio and luckily I don't need to reboot. That must reset the chipsets registers etc.
I thought I saw a 7 in your drivers? The 7 series didn't work well on mine.
You didn't give the chipset of the AIW, The Cataylst (video & capture driver) I've been using is 4.2 catalyst with 8.9 MMC all at different times on a 8500dv, 9000pro & 9600xt (aiw's).
I probably could try the latest drivers but if they crash using ulead then
even when I reload the old drivers that did work the program still crashes.
Figure that one out. It's probably an ini that should be erased so ulead can
rescan the hardware bus again, whatever.
The one thing about installing the MMC is when you set it up you connect the correct audio input of the sound card to the recording software.
I don't think you have to install the MMC to record with other programs.
The MMC does a much better job of recording video that others.
I've found it's very important to match the correct MMC with the compatible catalyst driver.
You should be able to download the 4.2 catalyst and the MMC 8.9 from the
ATI older drivers page. If you can't I can link you to mine.
You would have to email for that link.
I've switched to the NVidia cards, using a 6600GT that can output HD on the fly. No rebooting. Virtual desktops (limited by memory) that work better that the ATI Hydravision (my opinion).
One bug I definitely had with ATI MMC is I disable the ATI Threatre Audio under the hardware->devices->sound&video. If I don't many other apps would give trouble. Win2000 you have to reboot, XP can enable/disable on the fly.
I will have to look into the new installer that you are saying is needed. Why do I need to update a computer that's working very good. Security? I'm behind hardware firewalls anyway. I wouldn't need that to install the latest version of Directx would I? Windows is getting ridiculous again like in the late 90's.
Hope this helps,
