How to Fix Gradient Circles?

I've been meaning to ask this question for months, but I keep forgetting until I need a gradient. Why do some of my gradients show as a target with a bullseye when I set them to show the highlight in the center?
Can they be adjusted in PSP 2018 to feather/blend smoothly rather than showing as definite circles?

Hi Linda Lou,
"gradients show as a target with a bullseye when I set them to show the highlight in the center"
Is this something like what you are trying to do? Circular rainbow gradient with inverted circular selection with feather (about 1% of the image width 20 , 2000)

Or this using the gradient 06_027 labelled Fading Spe (cant see the rest of name or how to find it)

Or this with larger feather (7% - 150 pixels in an image 2000wide)

It could also be a result of gamut issues. Gamut is a whole nuther story for another time!!

Thanks for replying. That is not exactly what I'm looking for. I was hoping to have the colors feather or blend into each other in a softer way. They do better if I set them as vertical or horizontal, but if I set a center gradient they show up as circles. It's not easy to explain. :?

Have you seen any examples of the effect you're trying to achieve? If so, could you post one or more images here showing those examples, or links to pages that have images of such circular gradients that look like what you're trying to achieve?

I'll try again.
I am trying to achieve a more blended look. Notice the difference in these two. Is it a setting in the gradients that I need?

Doesn't it have to do with the severity of the transition in the colors of the gradient? When so many colors are jammed into the space, especially colors that don't transition easily, they create harsh lines. Even when using horizontal and vertical I see these exact same harsh transitions. It might be a little more visible in the circle gradients but not by much. At least to my eyes the hardlines are very visible in both forms.

The more you increase the number of different colors, the more you increase the "circles" aspect. For blending smoother, the tool needs space between each different color. If you choice a simple fading from black to white, you wil get a smooth transition (only two colors). If you increase the number of colors, you wil get more harsh transition.

Hi Linda Lou,
I hope you realise that in your comparison of the brown /cream gradient the bullseye is caused by then number under Repeats being greater than 1.
The other guys were mentioning that when you have a number of colors and need to change over a short space then you are going to get these sharp changes. I did a comparison of a sunburst and linear gradient and cropped pertinent sections from each.

Showing the crops side by side shows little difference between them supporting what the guys said.

Thank you, all. Ah, now that makes sense.
" For blending smoother, the tool needs space between each different color."
Is there a way to adjust that? I will look for a tutorial on working with gradients.
