Blend Two Image Portions To Remove An Object, Automatically?

Post by Troy at TheGTAMblog »

Just wondering if there is a way in PSPro to automatically 'remove an object' by taking another photo of the area, where the object is not present, and 'blending' them together somehow, to create a final composition where the object is not present at all.

I have tried with the Magic Fill tool (which is normally surprisingly good at this, after a few tries in succession!) but it does not seem to work in this case.

I have tried to simply copy/paste the area, but the two photos are different angles slightly, so it looks like I have to adjust the perspective/lighting/etc a bit, of the 'cover up' portion from the second image, to remove the object (a plant stand).

This is not a huge problem, but I was wondering if there is an Automated way to do this in PSPro - something where I take a first image, select a portion of it, then select a second image with the portion I want to 'blend into the first image' and then poof - a final image composition of the photo with the complementary 'part' blended in.

Thanks for any ideas

PhotoMerge. Depending on your version of PSP you might seen an option under File for PhotoMerge. It auto-aligns two or more images, tries to auto-select portions to remove to prevent "ghosting" and you can select other parts you don't want to include on one image. PSP then attempts the blend them.

This is it - thank you!

I found it as "PhotoBlend" (under File, on PSPX9) - and that is totally it... The only issue is, the photos seem to need to be very, very close to being taken from the same spot or on a tripod, etc.
In my case, I moved slightly and so it can never quite get the portions removed as in the examples (black spaces are left behind, etc) - but it does a pretty good job at aligning the images together (no Ghosting on my second try with the process).
If I can retake the images and put them back into PhotoBlend, or with any images in the future - it looks like this is the magic 'automated remove portions that are unwanted' that I was looking for - awesome that PaintShopPro can do this!

Thanks again, sincerely.

This is so useful if you are doing some family group portraits. Have camera on tripod and take 3-4 images in quick succession. Photoblend can then be used to replace that image of Grandma with her eyes closed , Uncle Joe turning his head in one shot, the kid in the front scratching their nose etc. Perfect group pictures every time.
Or something like this. I set up tripod by side of road and each time a red car went past shot a photo, but making sure that the cars were in different positions. So this image from 9 combined images. Gave the cars a bit of a start though as seeing a camera aimed at them they initially think -- Police!!!
