In PSP6 tagged an image wrong -- how to correct this ?

Post by boblite »

Here follows a rumination on managing photos in PSP6... by a novice... who has thousands of photos needing management....

In the MANAGE photos module of PSP6 I dragged a thumbnail image called "House_1" to the wrong tag, "Anna".

Was able to drag the House_1 image to the correct tag, "Houses". But when I was viewing the group of thumbnails tagged "Anna" I was unable to remove the "House_1" image from that group. Started writing a post asking for help.

Then found the solution. In the right hand panel headed "Info", clicked on the tab marked "General", then clicked on the thumbnail image "House_1". The Info panel then showed a list of all the tags associated with "House_1", including the tag "Anna". I was then able to delete the "Anna" tag.

I found that "Info > General" allows the user to add or subtract existing tags associated with a particular image. Also allows you to add a new tag that will go in the formal list of tags. So if your list of tags for the House_1 image only included "Anna" and "Houses" and you added a tag "Jon's house", this tag would be created in the formal list of tags, so you would have "Anna", "Houses" and "Jon's house" in the list of tags for the House_1 image.

A very important discovery followed: the "Info > General" dialog also allows user to type in a "Caption" for a particular image ... Was not sure what this does... whether the caption is searchable. Like if you had a tag "Family", and copied a picture of Henry into that tag, and attached the caption "Henry" to that particular image, would this create the ability to find this particular picture "Henry""? Well I typed in the caption "Henry" while the House_1 image was visible. And found that when I typed the search string "House Henry" it popped up the correct image. Yayyy !!

But if I have tag "Family" and 10 pictures of Henry, can I apply the caption Henry to all highlighted images of Henry with a single move, or do I have to laboriously paste the word "Henry" to each pic ? I suspect the answer is "Laboriously paste...."

BTW, would be SO nice if there was a system of tags and subtags so that you first see a nice compact list of tags like

Family
Recreation
Work

where each tag, when clicked on, exposes a list of subtags, each allowing subsubtags....

Does Corel have any product that does this ?

No.
And if you switch to a new version (PSP X7 or above) or install on another computer, your face recognition tags will be lost.
LightRoom (Adobe) has subtags and subsubtags. Tags from PSP are read by Adobe LightRoom.

Hi Jean-Luc: Many thanks for the advice. However I can't use LightRoom because it requires a 64 bit computer and I am tied to a 32 bit desktop that interfaces with my home entertainment system and several prototype devices which probably won't work with a 64 bit machine -- like a stepper motor board designed really for 16 bit. So I think I will have to judiciously use the Caption feature to get manageable subsets.

AfterShot Pro, a Corel product has the capability you are looking for, not expensive and one time purchase. But it is also 64 bit. Check it out in the Corel site and see (trial version?) if there is any way you could load it on your computer.
