Corel crashes unless I convert my videos to AVI

Post by ashynv »

Ok so I am filming with a canon sl2. It formats into mp4. The video file works fine in other programs such as movie maker and resolve. I can playback in media player. File is not corrupt.

Once I place it into timeline for Corel and click anything it crashes. However, it works fine if I convert the same file to AVI.
I have VideoStudio 2018 Ultimate.

In the attached image, I have tried both options and it still crashes. I have also tried making another video in 30fps and same issue.

I don't want to convert to avi every single time.....

Just tested something. The Sample mp4 provided video VS 2018 Ultimate crash too.....

I am going to uninstall it competently and reinstall to see if that works. Will post an update, but for now this is my issue I am facing.

I bet it's your OS. It looks like you can get a Windows 7 upgrade on eBay for about $30.

Hi
When you uninstalled did you use the Cleanup tool from
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=59847
Please read instructions at top of post to also remove additional folders.

If you need your library create a backup via Settings Library Manager Export Library
Use that to restore the library after installation.

and clutching at straws here
Right click the Video Studio icon and choose Run as Administrator

Try installing K-Lite Codec Pack

It's weird that it works in other video editing softwares though. But I will look into upgrading

Yep I did all that even run as administrator. I will look into the codec link and my OS for an upgrade!

Also, at first it did let me edit and even apply FX stuff but then crashed. After that the time to edit b4 crashing went shorter and shorter until in now just crashes once I hit play or click anything. It even crashes using Corel sample mp4

It's a good starting point if you don't want to transcode everything. If you are running Resolve, you should have adequate hardware for VS, which will run on a potato with wires sticking out. But Microsoft disabled a number of functions in Windows 7 starter. VS may need one or more of those disabled functions to handle AVC.

Right now I am running Windows 7 Home Premium. Not starter. I could try to upgrade to professional i guess?

No, if you're running Home Premium, then it must be something else. I honestly have no idea, but it must be specific to your setup if even the sample clips crash VS.

Hi

I have a laptop running Windows 7 home premium, service pack 1
2018 has been installed for a while, but now I have installed the latest patch, version 21.2.0.113

I am not having any problems in using that program, MP4, MTS and Mov with no problems.

its a little slow compared to my desktop, it works with no crashes

I assume your windows 7 is upto date, running the latest windows version.

Yea I made a ticket a couple days ago, but the support people are not being helpful for this case at least. I am going to try installing those codecs and restart my computer. Will post update later

So I installed the codec pack, did my windows updates, restarted. And it still crashes once in timeline

This seemed easy when I thought you were on Windows 7 starter, but now I'm baffled and curious. I have used VS for years and always found it to be stable. What are your hardware specs?
