PSP 2018 Ad pops up when I choose brush type
I just bought PSP 2018. Every time I click the dropdown to choose a brush type I get a popup ad for a Corel product. I'm using the paid version. It happens the first time I use that feature every time I start the program. I went to Help>Message preferences. The choices didn't seem to apply to my problem, but I turned off the tray notifications anyway. It didn't change the in-program ad that pops up when I change brushes. Should we be getting in-program ads in the paid version?

Re: PSP 2018 Ad pops up when I choose brush type
Apart from Help > Message preference, I regularly go to C:\Users\[YourName]\AppData\Roaming\Corel\Messages and delete everything in that folder. That usually keeps PSP free of ads for a while. However, they will gradually build up over times, so I try to clean that folder every week or so. Getting a pop-up ad is a good reminder, though, that another bit of Spring cleaning is required!

After deleting your messages and turning off messages in Help, you can also use your firewall options to block PSP (and all Corel programs for that matter) from accessing the internet. And finally go into the folder in which PSP is installed and rename the file called DIM.EXE to DIM.BAK. There is also a DIM.EXE file in the Corel Particleshop and Painter folders, and in virtually all installed Corel products. This should help prevent most types of push content from Corel.

Re: PSP 2018 Ad pops up when I choose brush type
Are you referring to an actual popup - an add with its own boundaries and some separation from the program workspace or are you referring to the Do More with Brushes banner at the bottom of the brush dialog.
Ahhh just got it. It is a popup . That is something new and interfering provided by Corel. Just had it about 3 times, but cannot work out what activates it to appear. Now I am trying to make it appear and it won't happen.
Ok just closed PSP2018 as could not get the popup again . Opened PSP X9 and managed to get the popup advertising for a brush set -at least it is pertinent to the tool I was using. Then closed the program and got a new popup offering PSP2018 Ultimate for $45. That is the cheapest I have seen so far and tempts me to purchase as a gift for a friend.
Those that have turned off all their messages will probably not get this popup.
That's why I have not atempted to close the popups. They are very minor annoyances, but sometimes provide some useful information.
Perhaps I should remove this a bit later as it will be out of date soon.

You can force the special offer by clicking on "Help" in the menu at the top of the application, then select "Messages" and click on the "Upgrade to PaintShop Pro 2018" in the gray area. If your experience is the same as mine, when you click on "Upgrade Now" you will get a display that appears to allow ordering online, but does not. In my experience, there are only two ways to get the special price: call the phone number at the top right and argue with the guy who answers until he agrees to give it to you, following his terse assurances of "that is not a current offer." I had to get ugly and tell him, "I'm sitting here looking at it; don't tell me it is not a current offer." The alternative, which is what I did when I bought VideoStudio 2018 Ultimate for $29.99, was to email Corel Customer Support and explain that you have received the offer and want to buy. This was my sweet reply (in stark contrast to the telephone guy who "let me have" PaintShop Pro X9 for $29.99 on 11/18/2016):
"You are correct. That's a valid offer.
Please find below the special offer to purchase the VideoStudio 2018 Ultimate upgrade for $29.99.
Thank you,
Carolyn"

Re: PSP 2018 Ad pops up when I choose brush type
We should NOT have to go through all this! I can understand why ads would be necessary in the trial version, but if I had known this before my purchase I would have gone with another application. I'll be sure to investigate the ad situation before purchasing the next version.
