Total lock up

Post by jyarddog »

I have Corel PS X9 IN 32 BIT AND 64 BIT and also PSP X4 32 bit.

It seems that after I use any of these a few times I try to open ANY of these they will not open. The timer next to my mouse cursor shows for a few seconds, then it goes away and nothing happens. Yes- sometimes it take a moment or two to open but often this does not happen.

the only way to get things to work again is to reboot my computer. THEN all is well for awhile.

Windows 10 None of these are in c:\program Files x86..... none. They are all in their own folder on another drive. Anyway to resolves this? Bob

I have noticed that from time to time various versions of PSP will continue to appear in Task Manager > Background Processes, even after I have close the program. Then when I try to reopen it, it will not open until I kill the Background Process referring to it. But that always works, and is less drastic than having to reboot each time.

You might also want to reconsider why you don't install your programs into the default install directory suggested by the software. While doing it your way might work most of the time, having installed them in folders other than the suggested ones can also be a reason that, as time goes by, you might run into issues.

Long ago I was told NOT to let PSP install into program Files (x86)

So, I might go to task mgr and end process then try to open again? If so, much easier and less time consuming.

Sometimes PSP doesn't respond to clicking on the Icon. Simply clicking it a second time often works.

Who told you that, and why did they make that suggestion?

If you allow PSP to install to the default directories that it belongs in, then the 32bit versions will install in the Program Files (x86) folder and the 64bit versions will install in the Program Files folder. There are very few good reasons not to just let the installations proceed that way.

Quite some time ago when I bought PSP X4 I was having some trouble with a few things(can't remember now) , and I was told, by someone at Corel to remove and reinstall outside of x86.

Anyway- regardless of this, Even though x9 locked up, I tried x4 it was locked up so I tried my x9 64 bit. It too was locked up rebooted and all was ok.

I feel something is screwbally with my OS. There is another unrelated program or plug-in that no longer works also. This a plug-in I use with FSDS a flightsim design program.

Problems, problems.... and to think that 150 years ago all we had to worry about was getting the south 40 plowed for spring planting!!! ;)

As I already said, you look in Background Processes in Task Manager. See the attached image. While PSP is still open, there will be an entry for it in the Apps part at the top of Task Mgr. But when you close it and it hasn't fully shut down, an entry for it (Corel PaintShop Pro 2018) will appear in the Background Processes in the alphabetical C (for Corel) area approximately where I placed the red arrow. Normally this entry will only remain for a few seconds and then shut down PSP completely.

But sometimes, as I said, it will remain working for much longer and has to be shut down manually. To do this just hold the mouse over the entry, right click and choose "End Task".
