I have just downloaded the sample file, and I too have no trouble playing, editing or rendering it in my VS 2018. So I can only repeat that it is pretty obviously not VS which is causing the problem.

I might also note, since it has been mentioned, that I do NOT have the Quicktime .mov codec on this computer as yet. (It is only 3 weeks or so old, and that is one thing I haven't gotten around to doing as yet...) Yet VS has no trouble with the sample clip. So pretty obviously, apart from anything else, it is also not one requiring the .mov codec in order to play correctly.

Now I had better download that codec!

Thanks for the feedback! The trouble for me is that it works in my other editors like Resolve or movie maker.

Like Al -- I have no problems in using that video sample, if it were Video Studio's fault then everyone would have a problem.

Some Mp4 type video may need the Quicktime codec.
Do you have that codec installed on your pc.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8lDOgqO_fVk&t

the youtube video shows how to install the QT codec without installing the player.
I will try doing this process and see if it works!

It did not work. Still crashes as MP4 that works as converted AVI. Works as MP4 in movie maker and resolve so not sure

The point is that 2 of us do not have a problem with the video file, Charles are you saying that the sample crashes your program.
If I can prove it is a Video Studio fault then I would escalate to corel support.

Converting to another codec is just a workround and does not address the actual problem.
No, I'm not saying the sample crashes my program.

I examined it with Mediainfo. I don't see anything unusual about it. It is 8-bit 4-2-0 long GOP AVC, like my cell phone and every camera I own, all of which VS can handle.

I don't have VS 2018, but I can't make the sample crash in VS 9 on my laptop or VS 10 on my desktop computer.

I'm running Windows 10 on both machines and don't have Quicktime installed on either.

I notice the OP is using Windows 7 starter edition, which is the first thing I would consider in troubleshooting. I would go on eBay and look for an inexpensive upgrade.

Meanwhile I'm offering a suggestion without drawing conclusions as to the cause of the problem. Cineform allows more refined tweaking of 8-bit source material. In this case it might also get around whatever problem is causing the OP's camera output to crash VS on his particular system.

Hi ashynv

Can you try resetting your program this involves renaming the 21.0 folder to "21.0-old"

C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio Pro (x64)\21.0

a new 21.0 folder will be created when starting VS, if nothing changes you can always revert to using the old folder
Otherwise try re-installing the program.

Ashynv I assume you are running the latest version of the program 21.2.0.113

Charles thanks for your comments, it may be that Ashynv will have to convert the video, a bit of a pain to do that for all the videos.

I had to do that to get my bonus content to show up. So already did that. Not sure why I have to convert my videos to AVI in Corel when they work fine in other editors

Hi
Clutching at straws

Try renaming the Mp4 video to use a Mov extension
MVI_0007MP4.Mov
Are you able to add that to the timelines.

Ken Berry wrote:When you say the frame rate is 59 fps, can you give the exact figure, please? I ask since VS has difficulties with frame rates which do not match international standard rates. In the 59 fps range, that would be 59.94 fps, though that is often called 60 fps. If it is another rate, though beginning with 59, then VS is probably seeing it as a variable frame rate. In such case we usually recommend people use a video converter program like the freeware Handbrake or FormatFactory to convert it to an mp4 with identical properties but the standard 59.94/60 fps. That usually works...
Thanks for the help. I also tried to run two .avi files on two versions of Video Studio X9 and 2018 and it shut both versions down. I had downloaded this .avi file from my new (of course Chinese) trial Camera which probably had the weird frame rate as you said. I downloaded Format factory and converted it to .mp4 and it worked just fine on Video Studio 2018. Thanks again.

I have been having such random problems with videos pasting from library into timeline and crashing VS (frequently in previous versions).
Now, with 2018 it does not happen, but still, I've been able to work out a little local solution:
- instead of draging the file into main timeline, try to put it first in the overlay track. Upon success I was moving this to main track...
Maybe this will help.
Best regards
