Hi,
Looking for an solution how I can shrink an full screen to a small frame and then entering multiple picture-in-picture and then picking an frame which I can let grow to full screen.
I saw this in the movie Duplicity (2009) with Clive Owen and Julia Roberts.
Hope that someone knows if this is possible.
Thx, Danny

Re: Moving Picture in picture frame
Start by inserting your "full screen" clip in an overlay track. Black background might be good, but otherwise choose a background item (picture, another clip, or just a colour object) and put that in the main timeline.
Select your 'full screen" clip, choose effects tab in options and then choose advanced motion. A customise motion panel opens and you can then choose how you want to grow you clip (small to large, or vice versa), where on screen you want it to start and finish, how much rotation and transparency needed etc, all tied to key-frames (points in time where you want a certain effect, eg size and/or position, and the software interpolates between key frames).
Repeat for as many of these you require, each one in a separate overlay track.
Playing the vsp with these set up will give you the effects of growing or diminishing clips against a background or even a main clip in the timeline.

Re: Moving Picture in picture frame
VSP 2018 I have a similar question. I want to be able to position my overlap image completely outside the frame and then 'fly it" into to the frame. 2nd requirement is that I need to start the overlay picture shrunken down to almost a dot. When the image flies into the frame, I want it to zoom from the 'dot' to whatever size I need it. 3rd requirement: Conversely, I want to start with the overlay image larger than the frame and positioned outside the frame. When it flies in, the picture shrinks into the final desired size.

Hi chuckb
and welcome to the forums
As described by Davidk above, use Advanced Motion aka Customise Motion
You can also open the panel using right click and selecting “customise motion”.

Re: Moving Picture in picture frame
That does most of what I need, but I still cannot move the image out of the frame. If I shrink the small to a dot, I cannot move It at all. If I make it slightly larger, I can move it but it remains within the frame, so when I fly it up larger, the shrunken image starts already inside the frame. No what I was looking for.
It's much worse if I make the overlay image larger the frame size. I can make it big and I still looks pretty good, but I cannot move the enlarged image out of the frame. I want it to start OUTSIDE the frame and fly it into the frame, so it appears at the edge of the frame and then get smaller as it moves into the frame. Currently this option is unusable since the best I can do place the enlarged image 20% into the frame, spoiling the effect I'm looking for.
The effects tool on the timeline has an option called "stay within the source boundary" which can you turn off. It would be helpful to have that option for overlays.

Re: Moving Picture in picture frame
Hi Chuck
from your description you seem to be using Pan & Zoom.
I was referring to Customize Motion
Right click the clip and choose Customise Motion
Also accessible if using the overlay track from the options panel (effects tab) as Advanced Motion
The effect is slightly different to Pan and Zoom but should do the re-size zoom in or out as original poster wished for.
