X10 Smart Proxy refusing some files

Post by _Seth »

Hi. :)

So for my project it is necessary to use smart proxy. All my video files are the same specs (apart from length) but the smart proxy refuses to create smaller files for about 50% of all my clips. I have the XP codec pack installed.

Video properties of a random clip:

Hi
Smart Proxy files take a while to render, if you close VS before they are complete then Smart Proxy files will not be created, the process would have to be started again for any that are not created.
Rather than a random clip, what are the properties of clips that do not allow SP to be created.

How are you checking that SP files are not created?

I did not close the program before they rendered. I used the queue manager to determine none were mid-process before clsoing, that is how I have verified they are not being created. That was a screenshot of the proporites of one of the clips it would not SP. :)

Hi

The Queue Manager will show the actual files needed to be created
The File Manager will show all files having SP created

A double icon will show on all clips thumbnails having a smart proxy file created , similar to image

I know how it is supposed to work and how the thumbnail double icon represents when it is SP'd, the problem is that the program simply doesn't SP them, manually or automatically.

Hi
Are you able to provide a sample of the video that does not allow for Smart Proxy

You would have to upload to a sharing site, Google Drive, One Drive Etc.

It would also be useful to know something about your computer specifications. In effect you have only told us, in your Profile, that you have a 2 TB hard drive. But what are the other specs which make you want to use SmartProxy? And where did the original video clips come from, given that they are using XVid?

Link to footage that cannot be SP'd: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1ntYNG ... ROjMlQU92Q

As for more info about my PC, is this appropriate?

Agreed, the downloaded AVI file will not allow Smart Proxy, so converted to .mov, now a Smart Proxy is generated

What did you do to convert it to .mov? Does this preserve quality?

A lot of members use Format Factory to convert, however be careful when installing, do not allow it to install the useless addons

I could not tell much difference in quality watching both .AVI and .MOV versions in VLC, there is a difference in data rate and bit rate but would that be noticeable, you would need to do your own checks

I hardly ever need/use proxy files, so in order to test your case I produced a 50fps FHD xvid from my last project.
I loaded that Xvid avi file to my VS19.2 and I am able to get it proxied no problem.
By checking your file info I see that it's OpenDML and mine isn't. I have no idea what opendml is but maybe if you tweak your screen capturing software and your Xvid setting you might overcome VS culprit.

Thanks, this has worked, only with a tiny hit in quality. :) Still strange how half of all the files with the same specs still SP'd successfully...
