Hi everyone
I've just burned my first DVD project and have included a menu. This plays fine on my DVD player but I can't access the actual film. I tried burning it again without the menu and it plays the film okay.
Has anyone encountered this before?
Could it be my DVD player? Or something I have to make sure of when I'm burning the disc in Movie Factory, that I'm not checking? I'm still trying to get my head around all the settings and things.
The other thing is on the actual film, some of the clips and some of the stills that I've panned and zoomed, aren't very smooth and at times are a little juddery. Anyone know what could cause this and how I could rectify it?
Thanks in advance

Can't get past the Menu on my first DVD

Hi - from the UK
I can identify with this problem - having just experienced it (after a number of successes!!). My project was to copy a number of camcorder DVD disks (1.4GB) onto a regular DVD-R. On inputting the camcorder video MF3 made each sequence a seperate clip - hence blowing the 99 clip limit. Hence I used an external product to merge the clips into two mpegs (one being almost 4GB!). I then used these two files to create a disk with a menu of two.
The resultant disk performs exactly as in the start of this thread. My DVD player will show the menu, allow me to navigate it - but will not play. The only way to get it to play is by pressing MENU of the players remote control - at which point it plays from the begining (next chapet gets to secong file).
Anyone any ideas of what we are doing wrong?
And (more importantly for me) any better way of doing what I was trying to do - in MF3 Disc Creator?

So you went from 1.4gig dvd compliant files to 4gig. That is a true sign of file corruption. Quick Joining doesn't work.
What program did you use to join all those clips?
What version of MF are you using?
If your using MF3 put 1/2 the clips on the timeline.
Make positive to make the "Project Properties" the same as the source
videos (you can make the audio dolby is so).
Do NOT make any chapters and pick no motion menu.
In the burning stage Uncheck create dvd & check Burn a dvd folder.
Let MF create a dvd folder.
Then start a new project and Import that dvd folder you created on the harddisk. Because you only assigned one chapter it will pull in the
complete video a one joined mpeg2 file as it was created on the dvd.
That would be your compliant joined file.
If you have somewhat of computer experience and have used the JOIN feature as MF is creating the dvd on the harddisk in one of the temp
directories Under the "Working Folder" you will find the Mpeg2 file being
constructed. You get grab that, copy it to another directory.
That is the joined clips into 1 dvd compliant mpeg2 file.
If you have MF4 you can do this right from the timeline, export Fast Video
will keep the properties the same. Nice for simple Joining like in your case.
You don't have to mess with any "Project Properties".
It's simple, put the clips on the timeline, hightlight them, JOIN and "Fast Export".
I would say the other program most likely funked up joining the clips together
but marked the mpeg2 file as being compliant so MF didn't render it.
Hope this helps,

I managed to overcome the problem I had. I read the...
Announcement: PLEASE READ RECOMMENDED PROCEDURE FOR USING VIDEO STUDIO thread in the VideoStudio board. Now I know why it was written in bold lettering.
I don't know if this would solve anyone else's problem if its the same as mine, but basically instead of creating a disc from the project, I created a video file of all the elements of my film (video bits, music, text, transitions) etc. Then opened a new project and on creating a disc (which takes you to MovieFactory), I added the finished mpeg, created the menus and it works fine after following the instructions in that announcement thread.
Maybe Paulus, that might be the same sort of thing you need to do? Merge the two clips together, and then create a video file of them. Then start afresh.
One of the main things the thread points out is that when you create a disc, you shouldn't have anything in the timeline.
Let us know how you get on
Best wishes
