Hey folks. Please help. I am filming with a canon xa20. My SD cards are NOT copyright protected. The lock is not flipped. The card had nearly 60 files on it when I transferred to my external hard drive. When I go to drop the clip into my time line I'm getting the below copyright protected error. I've right clicked on the file and checked security settings and they match all the other files on the drive. There are two that are giving this error and the one is the most important clip on the drive. I have to be able to access.
Please help. Thank you in advance.

Welcome to the forum!
First off, which version of Video Studio are you using? Second, if you posted an attachment, it does not appear. Unfortunately, the Board software imposes size restrictions, but in this case the photo is probably not necessary.
Have you tried putting the two clips through a video converter program and converting them to a format with very similar properties to the original? There are various free converter programs available. I use either Handbrake or Format Factory -- though when installing the latter you have to read each page of the installation process to stop it from installing other unwanted software.

Re: Copyright Protected AVCHD files-
I have VideoStudio Ultimate 2018. I have not put them through a converter. I have a friend that is going to try it. He has the software. Thanks.

Hi
I had the same type of message last week and my problem was that I had moved my working folders but not updated the change in the preferences. Perhaps check your preference settings to ensure that you do still have a valid location for the actual file to be stored when you drop it onto the timeline- although this does not explain why it works with some of your clips.

[quote"scott c ellis"]I have not put them through a converter. I have a friend that is going to try it. He has the software.[/quote]
As I said, the video converters I mentioned are freeware and easily downloaded, Handbrake can be downloaded from https://handbrake.fr/downloads.php and Format Factory from http://www.pcfreetime.com/formatfactory/ As I also said, be careful to read each page of the installation process for this one as it offers to install several other pieces of unwanted software.
Having a video converter on your own computer is an often useful tool for anyone.
