How to fade an Audio track

Post by NeilFuller »

Hi Guys

I'm new here, having migrated to Video Studio (VS-U 2018) from Serif. Sorry it took so long

Generally, I'm pleased with the move but I am having difficulty with a couple of things that I hope you more knowledgeable people may be able to help with?

The first issue is with fading in and out an audio track.

I've read the "manual" and seen Kens post from many years ago but to no avail!

Because I'm trying to edit a 3 camera shoot with master audio from camera 1 (nothing like jumping in at the deep end  :D ) I have split the audio from the Video track to the music1 track and I now want to fade in the audio at the very start of the time line.

I've found the fade in and fade out buttons but they didn't seem to work very well so I've dug around a bit more and discovered the "Rubber-Banding" and nodes on the audio.

However, when I drag the node at the start of the clip down, I can only reduce the level to -36db, which is a bit quieter but not the "start from silence" that I'm looking for (it's the same for the other nodes mid-clip which can only be reduced to -36db too).

I must be doing something wrong but having fiddled and researched for the last couple of hours, I'm stumped!"

Hope someone can point me in the right direction?

Cheers

Neil

-36db is all you will get. But having just experimented a bit, that's pretty silent to me. I will note that you need to get out of the sound mixer and back into project mode for the full effect of any changes made in the mixer to evident when playing . . . . .

Thanks David

It's a bit of an anomaly then because on my system, the fade starts from about 1/2 volume and there is a very definite "step" from silence to something very audible as the clip starts.

Good tip about getting out of the Sound mixer though. That did make a difference!
