Need Help with Paintshop Pro 2018 Install

Post by PhotoMe_2 »

Ill start off with that I do have an Open Ticket for this problem, but still waiting on tech support to get back to me.

Here are my laptop details

Windows 10 Pro, 64bit OS x64 based processor

Plenty of room as this laptop is 2 weeks old. ( so 15.9 GB left )

Purchased the Upgrade as I have owned an older version ( X7 )

I had tried the trial on my older laptop just so I could see how it was. When my New laptop can in, I tried to download the trial and for whatever reason it didn't download
it did show a folder, but when I clicked on it, it would say that it was downloading and that everything was downloaded, but the box then showed an Exit button.
When I click that, nothing else pops up.

So I thought to myself maybe because I was signed into my Corel account, it knew I already used a trial on a different computer. Which was fine with me.
I then went ahead and purchased the Upgrade.

Paid and received all the information and where to Download my product.

Again went through the same as the trial. Click Download, , scroll through the Agreement, check the small box to agree and hit next. goes through the download, receive a message that everything has been downloaded, and hit the Exit button ( only option in the pop up box )

never even went to the next screen which is where you would normally paste your Key.

Of course I go look at my programs on the laptop and Paintshop Pro 2018 is not there.
I then go to my Download files and see multiple folders ( because I tried to download a few times when it didn't pop up )
When I double click any of these folders it brings back the Download, but it just repeats what I went through before ... This the reason why I have multiple folders on the same Download

Not sure what's happening... could something be blocking the download ?
I do have a Firewall ( but Corel is listed as Good ) I do have Norton 360, could this be blocking it ? if it was, wouldn't the folders not be there in my Download folder ?

ANY help would be appreciated

Hi PhotoMe_2,
There was a Norton 360 issue here a few years ago, but the thread was dropped, so that's not much help.

If you have not heard from Support yet, there are a few things you can try in the meantime. If you have solved the problem please let us know in case others experience the same thing.

This can be a problem with third party AV's. Personally I prefer Windows 10's resident security + Malwarebytes Pro.
Have you tried disabling Norton Anti-virus and/or the firewall's Automatic Program Control temporarily in order to get the download? The folders may be there because the FW allowed the download, but perhaps Norton AV didn't like a file name, and may even remove it again if you should be able get PSP installed.

For the FW: In the Norton main window, click Settings.
In the Settings window, under Detailed Settings, click Firewall.
In the Firewall settings window, click Advanced Program Control.
In the Automatic Program Control row, move the On/Off switch to Off.
For both AV and FW see: https://www.nortonsecurityonline.com/fa ... terfering/

Another thing you could try is using Safemode with networking to get the download. If you can get it that way, you'll know if something else might be blocking. It used to be easy, but Windows 10 made it a bit more involved. If Norton is still running in Safemode, you may need to disable it again.

Good luck!

So you have two laptops. The old one you downloaded a trial version and apparently it worked. Then you purchased a new laptop and downloaded another trial.
You had previously had PSP X7 on the old laptop and was then able to purchase an upgrade.
You have Norton AV on the new laptop. What AV did you have on the old laptop where presumably everything worked?
Do you still have the older version of PSP X7 (download or CD ? you did not specify) and its licence number.
Can you install PSP X7 on your new laptop and have it working?
I would suggest that you remove all instances of PSP from your new laptop - check the uninstall to see if PSP 2018 is there. Also run the cleanup tool as mentioned in a post near the top of this forum.

Then do not bother with a trial but using the links you received in your email download and save your new version and any other programs with links in your welcome email and make backup copies of those somewhere else.
If it does not install correctly then you may need to clean up gain and then shut down your AV and firewall and try again from the email link.

I have purchased 2018 twice and installed it on four different computer environments - 2 laptops and a desktop with two different versions of Windows 10. IN all cases no problems, but then I have free AVG as antivirus and free Zone Alarm as firewall. The free versions are limited and do not take so much control as the paid versions do. I found Norton's to be one of the most controlling of the approx 4 AV programs I have used / tested.
Systems available Win7, Win 8.1,Win 10 Version 1607 Build 14393.2007 & version 20H2 Build 19042.867
