Plugins 2018 Giving Me Grief

Post by Muriel »

Good Evening..

I finally bit the bullet and purchased PSP 2018. It is set up and performing as Corel intended except that it sees only two of my plugins, Fantastic Machines and Flaming Pear.

How can I get it to recognize the rest of them?

Many thanks..

Good Evening Again..

Oh My Goodness!! I think I may have found the solution. I simply closed and re-opened the program and the plugins are at least all there! I have no idea whether or not all or any of them work at this time, but I was rather shocked to find them all there, smiling at me.

Many thanks again!

Some of the plugins will only show in 64 bit version, most of the older ones require the 32 bit version of PSP2018. Does that make a difference for you?

Good Evening Again!

Many thanks for your reply.

It is iffy and erratic. Sometimes all the plugins appear in one or the other, sometimes both. Generally, they are there and they seem to work except the "Jaggedge" one that causes the past several versions to crash.

Is there a way to identify the version that is open, whether it is 32 or 64 bit?

This version is amazing and I think I am going to enjoy tinkering with it which means you will likely be hearing more and more from me.

Try Help > About from the Menu bar of PSP, Also the desktop icons should show a little 32 and 64 for each version.

No issues here with JaggEdge on Windows 7 & PSP2018.

Hello Again!

Gosh.. no issues with Jaggeredge? That one hasn't worked for me since around Version 10 or 12 - can't really remember.

I have a tonne of plugins dating way back to Jasc Version 8. I have managed to make them (except Jaggeredge) work in all versions up to and including Version 2018. Thing is, in 2018 they may or may not appear when I need them. If they do not appear, I have to close and restart both versions 4 or 5 times to get them to show themselves.

These plugins are in a separate folder to which all the versions are linked. Do you think it is a good plan to copy/paste them into the Version 2018 plugin folder? Would that perhaps make them appear more reliably and consistently?

Many thanks!

It depends. If any plugins needed an installer (instead of just being able to copy the 8bf files to any location) then the installer might have also installed information in the registry, etc., that is required for the plugin to work and which is likely linked to the installed location of the plugin. Otherwise, many if not most of the old legacy plugins will likely work. Your best bet is to copy one plugin folder at a time into PSP's Plugins>EN folder, remove the link to the original folder in File Locations, and then see if the plugin works from its new location. If it doesn't you can always put the File Locations link back.

Not all of those plugins that came with an installer actually needed an installer so some of those might still work if moved. And if you still have the original installer with any of the plugins then use it to install into your latest PSP.

P.S. I don't know the Jaggedge plugin. Who is the developer? Is it a Mura Meister plugin? Does it come as a package with other plugins?

Joe got in before me. We really need more specifics when mentioning plugins and filters.
If I mentioned I had a problem with the Shifting Times filter would anyone know what filter I was referring to?
That filter is found in Andrews Filters ... any wiser ?? I have that in Filters Unlimited. .. any wiser still??

OK Andrews filters consists of 62 folders of filters each containing about 20 separate and differently named filters and Shifting Times is in the folder labelled Andrew's Filters 61... any wiser???

OK the path is:

Effects > Plugins > I.C.NET Software > Filters Unlimited 2.0 > Database > Andrew's Filters > Andrew's Filters 61 > Shifting Times

Now repeating Joe's question , where is Jaggedge. If you want help with a particular problem you must give specifics so that others can examine , test and provide solutions.
Bit like telling a doctor I have a pain and not saying where it hurts.
And then you have the patient that comes in to the doctor and says "Doctor i feel pain all over. See I touch my ear and it hurts, touch my nose and it hurts, touch my chin and it hurts and it does that all over my body"
The Doctors says - "I see your problem- first we will fix your broken finger and then see what happens"

Boom Boom!! :D

Muriel, maybe try a fresh download. A good while back the plug-ins were updated but I don't remember when. Maybe yours are the old variety?

Thanks to Kathy_9 for the link to that filter set.
I downloaded and unzipped them into a folder called DCFilters.
No instructions as to where to put them so I dropped the folder into My Filters Unlimited in my Documents folder.
In File Locations I have this path:
C:\Users\paul\Documents\My Filters Unlimited
Even though I have not imported the filters into My Filters Unlimited , my PSP picks them up from there as a separate folder to My Filters Unlimited and Jaggedge works first up.

Now that Kathy has provided the link to the filters so we know what is being talked about, I downloaded the zip file and placed the .8bf files in a folder I named DC Photo Filters in my 32bit PSP's Plugins>EN folder and they work fine, including JaggEdge.

I have no idea why Muriel seems to have so much trouble with her PSP 2018 and plugins, unless it's simply system specific with her or she has some plugins that might have had updates since the versions she is using and her versions are not very compatible with the newer PSP or her Windows 10 system.
