Capture video from vcr problem. sound but no video
I am using the diamond one touch video captur device. It is a usb2 with rca connectors. (the red, white, and yellow) It also has an S-video. It comes with cyberlink software which actually works pretty good. however. after I installed it corel stopped working! so i uninstalled the cyberlink. reinstalled corel and got corel to work again. So I thought well.... Why not just use the usb interface with corel to capture? It doesn't work I get audio but no video. Corel sees the device and it records etc. but no video. does anyone have any ideas?

Not enough info. So, clarity on what you are using would help.
It sounds like you are trying to capture from a VHS recorder or something (a tape-based camcorder?) that "plays" a tape recording to the computer. Tape is analog. Anything recorded on it must be digitised before use in a PC.
I have a Kaiser-bass device (called a video-to-DVD maker) that does this, came with a specially modified copy of a cyberlink power director program. And the digitising chip - rca connectors one side that plug into the playing device, usb for connection to the computer on the other - was unique, hence the tweaked software. The standard program cyberlink program would not detect the device either.
Connect it up, run the PD program on the PC, play the device and presto, recorded digital file. And that ran fine. But try to detect it with VS, and the "device is not recognised".
Which sounds somewhat like what you have described.
The only reasonable workaround I found was to use the digitising chip with the cyberlink software to create a digitised file saved on your PC, and then import that file to VS.

I know it has to be digitized. that is exactly what I am talking about! as I said in my post. "I am using the diamond one touch video capture device. It is a usb2 with rca connectors. (the red, white, and yellow) It also has an S-video. " I thought that was self explanatory. That is the analog to digital convertor. I described that it worked well with the cyber link software that it came with but when I try to use it with corel capture, corel doesn't see or record the video. but i CANI can hear the audio. does that clarify?/ AND i HAVE INSTALLED AND REINSTALLED THE DRIVERS

In many if not most cases, a capture device works only properly with the software that came with the device. Since you say it works with the Cyberlink software why don't you use it?

David's reply was somewhat round-about, but he realized what you were doing which was much the same as his explanation. However, his conclusion was, in his own case, that he had to use the software which came with his own digitizing device. In your case, that is the CyberLink software, but you have said that has somehow stopped Video Studio from working.Davidk wrote:Which sounds somewhat like what you have described.
The problem is that David's (and canuck's) conclusion about using the software which came with the device is the correct one. The makers of these devices tweak software to work with them, but don't share the secrets of that tweaking with other software companies. This is pretty common across the board, and many users have complained over many years and many versions of Video Studio that it doesn't work properly with a wide variety of capture devices.
In other words, it is highly unlikely that you are going to find a way of making VS work with your own device.
The solution, then, will be in trying to find out what is causing the conflict between the CyberLink software and VS. Quite recently we had the reverse case where installation of the latest version of VS (VS 2018) caused CyberLink Power Director (various versions) to refuse to even open. CyberLink quickly found a solution which worked. I happened to be one of many users of VS who also have Power Director, and was pleased that the two programs are again working well together on the same computer.
I imagine the software which came with your device is an older, probably cut-down version of Power Director but can you tell us what exact name and version number is on the CD...?

Re: Capture video from vcr problem. sound but no video
this is cyber link power director 12 DE. thank you . Ok that explains part of it. The hardware, or software, is tweaked to only work with power director. Now if I could get it to coexist with corel that would be nice. My work around was to install it on another computer (cyber link). what capture devices will work with corel?
