PSP 2018: Crop tool is a big catastrophe

I just started to use the Crop Tool in PSP 2018 due to an issue with the Selection Tool dropping some Metadata. (Another thread.) I expected the worse after reading this thread, but so far, I haven't found any issues with it. Maybe that's because I've never used the Crop Tool in any version of PSP until now, and I only work one image at a time.

Personally, I like the rotating image. I can always see the cropped image without turning my head. The sliders don't bother me, and I think a different color workspace around the image could confuse people.

Most of the photographs I work with are 6000x4000, and I use Free Form. Sometimes, I also select Maintain Aspect Ratio. When I'm done, I use Crop As New Image, and pretty-up that image. Then I resize and adjust canvas so my images are 24 by 16 inches. I'm pretty good at Free Form without maintaining aspect ratio, so I usually don't have to change the canvas much.

Just my 2 cents... Didn't want this thread to scare people from PSP, but maybe Corel will make some changes with this tool. Happy editing.

PS... I just tried Original Proportions selection in Crop and it looks promising.

Sorry for resurrecting an old thread, but I'm a new user (2 days).
This thread was started up in March. Any updates to the crop tool since?
My main complaint is that I can't rotate the crop tool.
Can someone let me know if it is possible to rotate it, instead of rotating the image?

Particularly, for the golden spiral crop, which I use a lot because I love the proportions.
If I want the spiral to start top left, I have to rotate the image 180°
That doesn't make any sense. Is there a way to rotate the crop tool instead?
To be honest, for me being unable to do this is a dealbreaker.

I have developed a workaround, at least for the Crop tool recentering. So I'll see what you all think.

I go to the Selection tool first. That seems to center and enlarge the image (I haven't got to the bottom of it yet) but you can wrap a rectangular selection around something, then go to the Crop tool (where the image will be re-centered) and select Snap crop rectangle to: Current selection. That allows precision cropping, which I think we lost when PSP 2018 came out.

I have another suggestion :
- Draw the selection rectangle
- Go to Selections / Edit
- Use the Pick tool to modify the selection and you may adjust the rectangle
When rotating, rectangle rotates, not the image. But you ends with an unrotated image which must be rectified with the Straighten tool.
