Ultimate Studio x9 and Panasonic Camcorder
Anyone figure out the magic for X9 to recognize a Panasonic camcorder. Computer sees it -- yet X9 relates 'no device'. Tech 'support' suggestions all failed. Great video editing software that can't even recognize a camera (please note I used Pinnacle Studio before buying this 'product' and NEVER had an issue capturing video from same camcorder).

Hi
And welcome to the forums
Sorry you are not feeling corel love
What type of Camcorder are you using?
If one that uses an internal hard drive (hdd) or SD card then the camera when plugged in to the pc will show as a removable drive on your PC.
Importing video from SD is the same as importing still images, just that video files are larger.
The option to Capture footage is not used for these types. Then again you do not mention Capture?
However from Edit, right click the timelines for Import Digital Media will allow you to browse for the SD card or HDD if used, from there we can upload files from the camcorder.
If the camcorder is an older model, maybe MiniDV – tape based then the program can use Capture options as the tapes have to be played whilst being transferred to the pc.
If you give more details of your camcorder and explain what you are trying to do we could give a more accurate answer?

Re: Ultimate Studio x9 and Panasonic Camcorder
This is a plain old fashioned Panasonic camcorder that records to both internal memory and a SD card. As I stated Pinnacle Studio 16 in Capture mode would show the clips and then you could choose what to download. Yes I do see the directories and the files -- however if you are saying the only way to download is to blindly copy filenames off the camcorder then there is no native functionality for 'Capture' in the true sense. Seems like this software is about a 10 year step backwards from what was supposed to replace.
To finish -- what you are saying is there is no ability for your software to effectively recognize and capture video from a Panasonic HDC-TM700 when a much older video editor program can -- correct?

Hi
You confuse Capture which is a process to convert analogue video to digital whilst transferring the footage with a means of copy and paste.
The video on Panasonic are digital video files, just the same as Jpeg images, here we do not Capture but transfer the files to the pc.
Video Studio will do that via Import Digital Media, effectively copies the files from the camera to a folder on the hard drive, then links them to clips in the library or timeline.
Using that will rename the files giving then a recorded date format
We can simply remove the SD card, insert to a card reader, transfer from there and the files will be 00001.mts etc
I own a Pana 900, it does the same as the 700, practically identical.
