PSP Fix?

Post by Leslie »

I posted that Balls & Bubbles (among other things) not working correctly, and Corel sent me instructions for a fix for the program.
I haven't tried it yet, as I would like some input as to whether this may be the right fix.

This is the message I got from Corel:

I would recommend installing/repairing the C++ 2012 redistributables.
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downloa ... x?id=30679

Download and install both x86 and x64 options.
If ever a Repair/Uninstall option comes up, choose Repair and finish the repair.
Once done, restart your computer and try again.

So, what do you all think? Should I give it a try?

Thanks,
Leslie

Yes, try it. It won't hurt anything. PSP is compiled to use these reistributables. So they are in fact some of the possible corrupted DLLs. If it's broken, that would explain it. If you repair and it doesn't change anything then they can move on to other options.

Thanks for your input.
I heard that some of the windows 10 updates messed with the reistributables.

Let us know if it works. All I know, from posts here and elsewhere, is that Windows 10 updates tend to mess with all sorts of different stuff. :-(

Nope, didn't work.
Corel said then to do a clean boot, remove all psp programs and use the zap tool.
I'm not going to do the clean boot, I don't think that'll help. And I uninstalled all my psp's and zapped 'em all as one of the first things I tried.

It's still perplexing why balls and bubbles broke in all the versions. I agree, must have been a recent update.

This is the reply from support that I got last nite.
Does it sound reasonable?
Anyone ever done this?
Thanks,
Leslie

Thank you for contacting Corel Technical Support.

Could you try installing the program in a new user account in your computer?
Just make sure it is an admin account.

This procedure checks if it there are problems with your current user account.
If the program works in the newly created user account, it would mean that your original user account has programs that is causing conflicts with PaintShop Pro.

I have not needed to do it, but I have heard of others doing it. It is usually done to fix installation issues. And I did tell you this might be one of their steps. Unless it is something drastic, I say try all suggestions as each attempt offers new information whether it fails or succeeds. Right now they appear to be testing for corrupted or incomplete installation. One of the things you were wondering might be wrong.

Well, it actually WORKED. So far so good with it.

Only problem is that I can't access anything in my main account.
Is there a way to open both accounts at the same time? I could use one just for psp.

Thanks,

In the past, using this method, once PSP worked, you could just remove the new account and PSP remained installed and functioning. But I don't know if that is still the case...

Is that after removing the account? Because I tried psp in my regular account and it still doesn't work.

Yes, after removing the new account, PSP should still work. We used to recommend this all the time a few versions back when some users (not many) had this problem. But as I say, I don't know whether it still works for more recent versions and under Windows 10...

Unfortunately, I deleted the account and psp is still messed up.
I turned off the computer and rebooted. Still issues.

Tell Corel that. It suggests that it's specific to that account. Which probably points to something you have running on your normal account.

The reason they told me to do that they said was to see if there was a program conflict.
How the heck would I find out what?
I will let them know.
