Backwards compatible?

Post by Jacko058 »

I currently own Corel X4 which is on my old XP machine. I need this as my special decal printer can not go above vista, so I am stuck with this one.
I also own Corel X6 which I thought was windows 10 compatible, only to find that it isn't quite compatible with it.
I am looking at getting Corel X8 for the Windows 10 (64 bit) machines.
By the way, I am only talking the Home & Student version with all of these.
In the X6, I can save the vector files in X4 format which saves all my layers I need for the decals, but both programs are installed as 32 bit.
Will X8 do the same? It's a lot of money if it won't. And the files are quite small, no large page sizes!
Also, as the Windows 10 is 64 bit and the XP's are 32 bit, would the X8 files work in the X4 if I saved it as a lower version.

I have looked and can not find a trial version of X8 to test to see if it will work. If it did, I would go out and buy a retail version of it tomorrow.
Hopefully someone might be able to help here??? A trial version I could download from somewhere would be ideal as I could muck around with it and try the cross over myself.

I know people will say update the printer, but that is not possible. It is a special ALPS printer which prints white and also metalics and 10 years ago cost a fortune to get.
There are no other types of replacements for it, and I can't run it direct from Win10, hence the 'save and move' to the XP machine to print.

Thanks in advance,

John.

John -- You only describe the program you are using as being "Corel X6" and you posted in our chat forum. Unfortunately, there is now a wide variety of Corel programs using the X numbering system. I get the impression, though, that when you refer to the Home and Student version, that you are in fact talking about the CorelDRAW package (since I happen to have CorelDRAW X7 Home & Student).

Our Board does not deal with DRAW and its associated programs. There is a totally separate Board for that, and we are not associated with it. So you would need to register there to post your question(s). It is at https://community.coreldraw.com

Good luck!
