Cannot Set File Locations
My PSP 2018/X8/X9 will not allow me to add new file locations. The programs simply freeze,
I have shut down PSP and re-booted the computer to no avail.
This is way past aggravating.
Can someone help?

Re: Cannot Set File Locations
Have you tried resetting PSP? It's easy. Simply hold down the Shift key when you click on the desktop PSP icon to open the programme. You'll be asked if you want to reset. OK that.
Make sure, though, that you save any Customized workspace you may have created. Otherwise that will be lost in the reset.

Re: Cannot Set File Locations
With the issues you've been having lately, I'm going to ask exactly what has changed with your computer. There must have been a time when PSP worked as advertised, and this (and your previously posted issue) must be relatively recent. Unless something has changed in your computer configuration programs just don't suddenly exhibit unexpected behaviour. So there must have been some change, whether it's Windows updates, installation of some software, changes to firewall and/or anti-virus settings or behaviour, PSP workspace setting and/or file location settings or other such configurations, addition of new scripts, changes to hardware or hardware configuration, etc. Can you recall when things last worked as they should and then try to remember any and all changes that may have happened to your system since then?

Re: Cannot Set File Locations
Balls & Bubbles I have no idea when it last worked as I hadn't used it.
Could be a windows update, but don't remember whether it was before this problem arose. The issues concern things I don't use very often.
Otherwise, I have only added AShampoo, which is a backup program for the entire computer. That wouldn't have bothered anything.
I'm at a standstill. I could remove X8 or X9 and reinstall and see what happens.

Re: Cannot Set File Locations
If you're going to do a reinstall then make sure to use the cleanup tool in the sticky near the top of the forum. And, once reinstalled, test the programs without using any save workspace first! Sometimes - if rarely - something in a workspace is the culprit so it's best to retest the reinstall in its default state to see if the issue(s) have been resolved. And then when redoing your file locations check to see if there comes a time after adding a location where you can't add anymore. If that happens, then the previously added location could be the culprit.

Re: Cannot Set File Locations
Do I just use the cleanup tool alone, or use it after I have uninstalled the program to get rid of remnants?

Re: Cannot Set File Locations
The cleanup tool is not meant to uninstall PSP but rather to clean up after an uninstall to make sure nothing was left behind.
So, first, uninstall PSP then use the cleanup tool. However, the cleanup tool should only be used if you've encountered problems attempting to reinstall PSP. It's kind of a "Last resort" tool.

Ok, will do. It's been stuck on uninstalling 3rd party programs for 10 minutes. I'm using geek uninsaller.

You're probably better off just using the Windows uninstallers through the Control Panel.Leslie wrote:Ok, will do. It's been stuck on uninstalling 3rd party programs for 10 minutes. I'm using geek uninsaller.

Re: Cannot Set File Locations
I've been trying to uninstall the program, but it is still getting stuck for over 1/2 hr on uninstalling 3rd party programs, whatever those may be that are part of this debacle.
I'm going to try a system restore and see what happens. How frustrating.

Re: Cannot Set File Locations
I am just trying to do psp, but then that 3rd party thing comes up and just stays.
*sigh*. I'm going to try to uninstall X7 now.
Hopefully that will go well.

Re: Cannot Set File Locations
I uninstalled and re-installed.
I still can't use Balls and Bubbles. It freezes the program. I added file locations except that that takes a long time to see the documents where My PSP Files are. At this rate it will take me hours to redo my file locations, but at least it works.
So, I'm almost back where I started before I uninstalled and re-installed.
X9 does the same thing.
I'm out of ideas. Guess just have to do things without that effect, and deal with it if I need to add files to the location file.
In 12 years I've never had a problem with any of the psp programs.
Arrrgggghhhh

Re: Cannot Set File Locations
I'm back. I can now set locations in 2018, altho the paths take 60 seconds to appear.
However, the balls & bubbles is not working.
What do I try after uninstalling, reinstalling, using the clean up tool and not fixing the issues?
Help........
