Add media app crash(2018 and x10)

Post by BerthLJ »

Hi,

I have 107 media files that i like to add to a project, but as soon as i open the browser in the application to go to the folder and add media, the application just crash.
The version number is 21.1.0.89. 107 files is a bit annoying to handle but should not cause a crash, works in PPro but there it fails to render out the finished movie :)

I run Windows 10 64 bit, dual 10 core xeons, 128 gig ram and a 16 gig quadro card, Nvidia driver 390.77.

Felet uppstod i programmet med namn: vstudio.exe, version 21.1.0.89, tidsstämpel 0x5a6b5f58

In Swedish sorry about that :)

Tried to copy 3 files to another directory and open that, the application just vanished, the other times it has been hanging for a bit then i get the "the application has crashed" dialog twice then the application closes, also
this time i got no crash dump file.

Hi BerthLJ

First do you have QuickTime Codec installed on your pc.
The Youtube video describes how to install QT Codec only?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8lDOgqO_fVk&t

If installing QT does not fix this I think you should contact Corel Support to report this problem.
We do not work for Corel, just volunteers running the forums.

Ok
Please provide more details regarding your media files, I assume video files, MP4 type.

If possible can you upload samples to a sharing site, Google Drive , DropBox , OneDrive etc
We can then download and test your files.

If you Contact Corel Support they should also require samples?

Hi Trevor

Thanks for the reply, i have tried to install the quicktime codec alone without the player, will try it out to see if it makes a difference.
Files are MP4's so nothing to exotic, not sure if the codec is even used at this point since i am only in the file browser to add the media to the timeline, but i guess the software might
try to do some kind of verify/preview of the files.

You've mentioned 'browser' in your posts several times. VS doesn't have one, so I infer you mean something else. Please clarify just what you mean by that:
- the edit mode (edit tab at top of screen) application workspace/user interface (UI) and timeline tracks: add video
- the share mode (share tab at top of screen) for disk rendering ie, in the burner module, stage 1, adding clips to the time script.

Your first remarks indicate a time issue. If you mean just adding clips to the UI timeline causes the crash, then
- does it crash immediately, or after some action you take. If the latter, what action?
It's likely just one clip is causing the problem, and you may have to just add clips one, or a small number, at a time until you find the one that causes the crash. The details of that clip will be of interest.

Hi
Yes when using the Import Media Files the program will check the details of the chosen folder, if we select the wrong type of files the program will warn us, but should not crash.

Can you try opening your folder using Windows Explorer, then drag and drop one file to the library or timeline from that folder.

David
I believe BerthLJ is using the normal open folder icon ( Insert Digital Media) that opens a window, named “Browse media Files”
There is also the “Browse” option at the bottom of the library list, that opens Windows Explorer.

Not to be confused with a Windows Internet Browser.

Yes lata i am using the open folder and then i change to the directory where the media files are to add them to the project, i guess timeline is the wrong word here, my bad.
It is like in premiere when you import media into the project but before you place the media on the timeline.
CPTError 1.jpg
This time when i tried to change to the "test" directory the application just shutdown no error message or anything, checked the eventlogs for programs and nothing.

Here is a link to one clip on onedrive https://1drv.ms/u/s!AmV0M8qStQZ0hDA21r2t86mUgYM6

I tried drag and drop onto timeline or media but it would not let me.

Hi

I am also having the same problems using the sample video, I am using X10 at the moment, I do not have 2018 installed at the moment so cannot try that?
Maybe others on the forum with 2018 installed can test your sample MP4.

I was able to Use Format Factory to convert the video to MP4 which I was able to add to Video Studio.

I assume the camera is a car dash cam? What make of camera?
Does that camera come with software that may convert the video files, or download the files from the camera rather than Copy and Paste?

I am uploading my FF sample to One Drive here, will provide link once upload is complete.

Post updated, one drive link to MP4 sample

Hi
As a workround renaming MP4 to Mov sometimes works, unfortunately not this time.
Good news is MKV seems to work

I renamed your GRMN0001.MP4 to GRMN0001.mkv, I was able to add this video file to Video Studio X10
I was then able to render the file to Mpeg4 settings which seemed ok.

You should contact Corel Support providing them with your video as a sample, maybe they can fix the MP4 problem.

Spoke to soon, I am having problems with the audio quality after rendering?

Nope -- on the full VS 2018, when I try to use Insert Media File into the Library window and browse to where I have downloaded that clip, when I select the clip, nothing happens for a few seconds. The clip name does not appear in the Open part of the dialogue box, and VS immediately crashes.

I was interested to note that when I opened One Drive to download it, I got a message that there was a problem in opening the file. No further details were given. However, the download part of One Drive worked fine.

Interestingly enough, now that Cyberlink PowerDirector 16 is working again, I thought I would try to open the clip in that. And it opened without any problem at all! Moreover, I could see nothing in the Properties given for it in PD 16 to indicate why VS was having a problem with it. Those Properties are:

Video
Type: H264 AVC
Bitrate: 9.96 Mbps
Resolution: 1920 x 1080
Framerate: 15 fps
Aspect Ratio: 16:9
Profile: Baseline Profile
Frame Type: Progressive

Audio
Type: AAC
Sampling Rate: 16 kHz
Bitrate: 24 Kbps
Channel: Mono

EDIT: I tried to produce a new video from the clip in PD 16 using the Cyberlink equivalent of Same As First Video Clip. However, it would not accept that. Don't know why -- perhaps the framerate of 15 fps? So I switched to 25p and the new clip plays smoothly, with all that hip hop audio playing fine too. And the new clip can be inserted in VS where it also plays fine.

Elsewhere in the forums a frame rate of 15fps has been associated with
- VS crashes
- media captured using a mobile phone in low light conditions: because of the low light, the phone increases the shutter time to get more light and a more usable image, and thus the lower frame rate.
The fix as reported was to use a converter to increase the frame rate to 25fps, something VS can handle.

Yes, I understand that, David. But VS's own screen capture app itself uses 15 fps (as well as 25/30)... So you'd think it would at least make an effort to insert them rather than just crash at the very idea! Of course, the fact that Corel's screen capture uses only wmv could also be a significant difference to the current problem.

Hi Ken,
Yes, another football dropped.
Even tho the screen capture tool supports 15, 20 and 25fps in wmv, clearly VS doesn't. Hmmm. A bit slow, sometimes. The wmv format was specified for low and variable bit rates (and a clear association between bit rate and frame size, and ergo, frame rate) in version 9 as early as 1999 (see wikipedia here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Media_Video), and various tools (eg video compression manager) to use that format being available as early as 2003.

As a newby, I'm having the same issue - VSP 2018 just crash when I try to insert a video clip into a blank new project - and this clip was created with VSP 2018!
to create this file, I simply combined 4 existing clips, applied Mercali stabilization, and saved the file, and now in a new project I'm trying to import the produced 35Gb clip to convert it to Youtube friendly output (stabilization requires identical same output format is project format, so can't compress before saving original). I've done this multiple times before, but this file is giving issues.
Are there any file size constraints in addition to frame rate?
