Overlay options and png file conversion

Post by Ken Veal »

VSX10 Ultimate. I am trying to master converting still and animated titles to png files for use in overlay tracks using apply overlay options, the use of gamma adjustments, cut off and threshold also blend options. Not getting on that well .Can any one point me to a relevant tutorial or give me some advice please.

Hi Ken
Not really sure what you are trying to do?????
You mention still and animated titles
When we choose Convert this Frame to Png it creates a Png of one frame
You cannot create an animated Png as such, the process converts the frames into a UIS ( Ulead Image Sequence file), to create that each frame has to be converted to a PNG, there will be lots of those, 25 images per second.
Once converted to UIS you will not be able to modify the text.

Maybe I have the wrong end of the stick
So if you explain just what you are trying to create maybe we can come up with some ideas?

Trevor,
Since X8 I think, you can convert titles to png's UIS.
Just right click them.

Well, I am not sure what I am trying to do either! But my aim is to try and get a different way to show titles in a project. In VSX10 re converting titles to image and animation files, you can convert a frame to a png image file and moving titles to UISX which are saved as Alpha channel files . These files can be added to o/lay tracks giving more options to play with.
That is what attracted me to the idea but when I encountered ie all the settings under blend o/lay clips with background the choice was a bit overwhelming. As you may have gathered from past posts, I go over the top with effects.
So, knowing this, perhaps I could ask for a few pointers on how to achieve something new to me with regard to title effects

Hi Ken

Using UIS files is not what you need, I think it will confuse the issue.

The basic title editor can animate our text, it has several pre-sets to choose from, but we can also manually animate the text by selecting the “T” symbol. I assume you are aware of that option.

Ok tell us what type of animations you are using.
Better still create a new project containing samples of your animated text.
Save the project as a vsp. “test text.vsp”
Rename that file to “test text.vsp.txt”
You can then attach that to your post, we can then see what you are up to.

As well as text animation there are some FX filters that can be applied
Now Boris BCC is quite good

To use that first add an image or Video to the tracks, go to FX and find BCC
Drag to your clip, open options and Customise the filter will open a new panel
A big learning curve, available in X10 Ultimate version.
Mind you as the weather is so bad I doubt you will be venturing far, so you should have the time to play.

What I was drawn to was making titles transparent via the convert to png etc then o/lay route, I presume this cannot be done in another way?.My present project has loads of jpegs seperated into 12 monthly groups.I was looking for a new title effect to introduce the next months photos.(September).So i cannot tell you what type of animations I am using because I have not got that far. What ever type of animation I intend to use would not be out of the ordinary, just something available via the usual title route.I have not used the FX route yet.Not at my PC now so can try the FX route later. As you can see, I am just fishing now, looking for something new (ang easy)

You do not need to use the png options to make your text transparent.

By making the text / titles transparent are you referring to the complete text, so create a fade -in Fade – Out
Or wanting to make the characters transparent with a thin outline. That can be done with the basic text editor.

If you can tell us what effect you have in mind?
I'll try to create a few samples using various animations

Perhaps this is a sample of the simplest application of what you seek - month in lower right corner over every image. It can get much more complex if desired.

Trevor,
Thanks for the reply, I am like a shopper looking for something new but do not know what until I see it. Characters transparent with a thin outline sounds good. Would very much appreciate if you could create a few samples (listing how you got there) and I am happy to leave the sample type to you.

Thank you for the links. Beautiful and professional video, something to be proud of.

Thank you, Ken but does it sow a seed? Those text titles can have multiple shapes, colors, boarder, movement in 3D, all kinds of things.

I try to keep my stuff a little more simple but have had fun going nuts, too. This was made while testing VS2018:

Ken

Have you looked at the library samples, yes they all show as Lorem Ipsum, but easy to change the text and retain the effect
Attached is a few samples
Rename the file by removing the .txt.
View the filters that have been applied via the Attributes tab.
X10 TEXT SAMPLE.VSP.txt
rename to remove .txt, opens in X10
(40 KiB) Downloaded 93 times
