How to mirror an image in PSPX9

Post by Phil47 »

How can I mirror an image in PSPX9?

It is easy to find out how to do it in Corel Draw so why not PSPX9?
Tell the truth....but gently.

With the Mirror and Flip commands usually. Under the Image menu there is a section for Mirror and Flip. Flip is a local command meaning that the layer will flip across its own local access simply reversing either horizontally or vertically in place. Mirror is a global transform, it will mirror a layer across the Canvas's horizontal and vertical axis resulting in a mirror image on the opposite side of the canvas.

It's extremely easy to find out how to do it in PSP also. Go to Help on the menu bar and type the word mirror in the search box. The first item that appears will be this:

Flipping and mirroring images

If you have the User Guide in pdf format you go to Help>User Guide(PDF) and also type the word mirror to get the result you need.

You're welcome.

Hello,

I am using PaintShop Pro X7.

Is there a simple way to transform a layer so that it is mirrored like a real mirror does, when I put an item onto its surface?
I show it with pictures what I am looking for.

this is the source layer:
Image

I want to transform it to this:
Image

in order to get this:
Image

It sounds like a noob question.
I’m not a noob.
Therefore I feel even more ashamed.

Any hints?

Regards
Wuu

No need to feel ashamed :-)

I have tried using Layer Styles>Reflection, but the reflection doesn't 'bend' the way you want it, hmm.
Sorry, can't help, my brain is not fully functional today!

I think it is not possible with PSP.
In the mirror you want, the shape of the can of food has the same curvature as the not mirrored can.
But the text has an inverse curvature (when mirrored). They are two opposite things.
I have tested with the Polar Coordinates Effect with no luck.

Thank you Joëlle, thank you Jean-Luc.

Now I’m happy that I’m not as lame as I was afraid to be. And unhappy because my problem wasn’t solved.

Strange that such a natural reflection can’t be done.
Dear Corel, is it too complicated or am I the only one to put a meat can on a mirror?

It's complex. Keep in mind that your mirror is reflecting in 3D before you take the picture and is actually showing more of the can than would have been captured without the mirror. The big thing is in the reflection you need to delete the majority of the top part of the can, and then you need to distort the image along a curve so that the bottom touches on every point. We can do this manually by using the warp tools, I recommend Mesh Warp as it's more constrained and you can more easily control it.

Here's a really bad attempt. I used the Warp brush (warp mesh might be the better tool but it has its limitations). Would be nice if PSP offered a better deformation cage option.

That's excellent, I tried using the Warp brush, then the Warp mesh, but didn't get anything as good as yours :-)
