sync problems with Ulead VideoStudio 9

Post by shoosh »

When I edit a clip, pan/zoom or add a transition, the audio becomes out of sync with the video for all PREVIOUS clips. I can understand why the edit would affect the sync for everything after the clip but can't understand why it's affecting previous clips on the timeline. Everytime, I have to go back to the beginning of the song for the sync to be restored, which makes for terribly slow editing. This is the first time I've used this web board and don't know if anyone's had the same problem or can suggest a remedy. Thanks....[/u]

Is the audio on a separate track (split audio) or is it contained in the video track? What are your project properties? The more info you can provide will help those on this forum solve your problem.

From the description you've given I am not sure if this is a sync problem, or an editing problem.

I haven't heard of UVS 9 creating out-of-sync videos when transcoding to MPEG like UVS 8 did, so I suspect it's an editing problem. UVS 9 adds ripple editing to keep the assets in the project in sync when adding, trimming or removing items. Take a look at page 75 of the manual for more information.

Ulead VideoStudio 9 sync problems

Post by shoosh »

Black lab and THoff,

The project settings are the default settings when I started, I never thought of changing them, and are as follows: Edit file format MPEG files, NTSC drop frame, MPEG files, 24 bits 720x480, lower field first, DVD-NTSC, 4:3, Video data rate variable, LPCM Audio 48000 hz, stereo.

Obviously I don't know what any of this means.

I am 4 and 1/2 minutes into the project and have used 133 video clips and still pictures so far, with about an equal number of transitions, and am 1 minute into my third song on the music track . If I playback the project from the start, or even from the start of the third song, everything is in sync. The problem arises when I stop the track and replay any of it. Unless I go back to the beginning, it won't be in sync. I DON"T HAVE TO ADD, SUBTRACT, OR MOVE ANYTHING, (SIMPLY REPLAY A PART) FOR IT TO BE OUT OF SYNC.

I have played with the ripple effect button but it hasn't helped. Like I said, I only have to go back and replay a part of it and it becomes out of sync(sorry for being repetitious).

If you have any ideas PLEASE...............The entire program has worked great until this. Thanks.

shoosh, your project is probably not out of sync. It is "playing" out of sync in the preview window. VS has not actually created the project yet, it is just storing all your instructions in a .vsp file. When you playback in preview window the program and your computer are having to do some very serious gymnastic tap dancing to try to slap the whole thing together to display on the fly.
With 133 clips and stills with and equal number of transitions PLUS audio all within a four and a half minute time frame there is no way you are going to get a smooth replay. With a project that complex the only way you can truly tell what it looks like is to create a video file and play in media player or similar.

Here comes the "Yeah, but............."

Yeah, but how can you keep adding on, in sync, if you if you can't tell right away where, exactly, you are on the audio track? You can't create anything if you can't check immediately see if you are in sync.

Use the trim handles to set the Preview range, and then use Share -> Project Playback -> Preview Range to see a full-quality, fully rendered version of your project. That way you don't have to wait for the entire project to render.

Ok I'll see your "Yeah but..." and raise you a "Well ok but..!"
Dude!
You are putting together a piece that so far that, even without transitions, has a clip change every 2 seconds on average.
The transitions are going to be longer than the clips!!! The amount of processing power you would need to be able to preview that on the fly would be huge.
The only way you can do it is by visually positioning everything in the timeline then render to a file and replay it.

Lance,
I don't know why I'm laughing but you're right , the transitions have been longer than a good 40% of the clips.

With a 3 gig processor, 1.5 gig memory and 160gb of free hard drive I thought I could pull this thing off. I did a slightly simpler project last year using Windows Movie Maker and ,boy, was it a dog to put together. I was hoping VideoStudio would make it easier.

THoff,
I'll try your suggestion......thanks.

I'm still listening.................

Folks, I have exactly the same problem.

Like Shoosh, I am a new user of VS9 (bought 2 days ago), and have no idea what if anything I might have done to it.

However, unlike Shoosh, alls I have is a single mp3 3 minutes in length, no effects whatsoever, and the only visuals I have are 3 alternating plain-coloured bitmaps I'm using as placeholders for when I am ready to start substituting video in. The bitmaps are 40*30 in size so they're hardly large files that take a lot of processing.

What I have noticed is that the timelag is barely noticeable at the beginning and gets more pronounced as the mp3 goes on, equating to roughly 3/4 of a second per minute. This is invariable regardless of whether I've made any changes to duration or anything.

And it is *really* annoying me.

Does anyone have any suggestions?
