Re: Plugins (or standalone versions) for 64bit PSP??
I've been looking for free plugins for 2018 64-bit.
I do need Vanderlee Snowflakes, but it wants to install in my old PSP 8 (where I already have it). Is it still not compatible with 2018/64-bit? Switching to the 32-bit PSP 2018 has been a bit of an inconvenience.

Re: Plugins (or standalone versions) for 64bit PSP??
I just checked and I found it installed in PSPX9 64bit (which I believe was before I had PSP2018 installed) as well as Adobe PS 64bit. It's also installed in 32bit versions. There is also a folder called Snowflakes directly under the Programs Files folder but it only contains an uninstall file.Linda Lou wrote:I've been looking for free plugins for 2018 64-bit.

It's the Snowscape filter I don't have installed, and I vaguely recall that it wouldn't install - or if it did it didn't work.

Re: Plugins (or standalone versions) for 64bit PSP??
It installs as a plugin in the plugins folders of 64bit Adobe PS and 64bit PSP. I was just pointing out that, when installing, it also creates its own separate folder just under the Programs Files folder with the uninstall file.Linda Lou wrote:If the only thing in Programs is an uninstall file, it doesn't install in 2018 64-bit?I found it installed in PSPX9 64bit (which I believe was before I had PSP2018 installed) as well as Adobe PS 64bit. I was just pointing out that, when installing, it also creates its own separate folder just under the Programs Files folder with the uninstall file, so that is NOT the folder in which you will find the active plugin files. You should have had a dialogue when installing it that indicated where it planned to install the plugin, and perhaps an option to also choose another program's plugin folders for installation. I don't remember now exactly what the install dialogues showed me.Linda Lou wrote:If the only thing in Programs is an uninstall file, it doesn't install in 2018 64-bit?I found it installed in PSPX9 64bit (which I believe was before I had PSP2018 installed) as well as Adobe PS 64bit. Re: Plugins (or standalone versions) for 64bit PSP??
Ah, thank you for the clarification. In that case when it wants to install in PSP8, I'll direct it to my 2018 64-bit Plug-ins folder instead.
Editing to add a couple of questions:
1. I use 32-bit DSB Flux's > Bright Noise all the time. As far as I know, it won't run on 64-bit. Does anyone know of something similar to the Bright Noise feature? The resident PSP "Add Noise" does not have enough ways to configure size, amount, and color - unless I'm missing something.
2. Do all PhotoShop Plugins work with PaintShop Pro? Brushes and Gradients as well?
This forum has been a wealth of information. Thank you for your help.

I purchased Alphaplugins's Launchbox.
With that I run old 32bit plugins in the 64bit version successfully.

Re: Plugins (or standalone versions) for 64bit PSP??
Not all PS plugins work with PSP but most will in my esperience. The problem with some of them is that some simply will not install in PSP but only in a version of PS. If you have PS as well as PSP then, for those plugins that won't install in PSP just let them install in PS and then point PSP's Plugins file locations to the folder in which the plugin installed. Then open PSP and see if the plugin registers in Effects>Plugins. Some will, some won't.Linda Lou wrote:Ah, thank you for the clarification. If the plugins is simply an 8bf file without an installer then, depending on whether it is 32bit or 64bit, you can add it to the appropriate PSP version's Plugins folder and see if it works. If it's an 8li file it won't work.
PS Brushes have to be converted to work in PSP. There are instructions on the internet - just type the words convert photoshop brushes for paintshop pro into Google and you'll find several links.
LeviFiction has a script that converts PS Custom Shapes for use in PSP. Go to this link in the Scripting sub-group and check out his scripts, downloading those you think you might want including the Import Custom Shapes script:

Re: Plugins (or standalone versions) for 64bit PSP??
I still have not been able to find DSB Flux. Does anyone know of something similar? All I need is Bright Noise from that. The default PSP >Add Noise adds colored noise so that's not what I want. I want to be able to add texture in colors that are close to my background color. In other words it gives a grainy texture in similar shades of the selection.
If I'm not explaining this well I can fire up PSP 8.1 and post a sample.

Yes, it definitely helps! Thank you! I couldn't get it to show up in 2018-64, but it does in 32, so unless I can find a way to get it to work for both versions, I may end up simply using the 32-bit v. from now on. Many thanks!

Re: Plugins (or standalone versions) for 64bit PSP??
64-bit PSP can only run 64-bit plugins. And DSB's plugins are very old 32-bit plugins. jcrowe suggested you can buy Alphaplugins's Launchbox to get older 32-bit plugins to run in 64-bit PSP. It's a special plugin/program combination, the plugin runs in 64-bit PSP and calls a special program that runs the 32-bit plugins passing data back and forth. So it's a little up front cost, but if you find yourself preferring the 64-bit PSP or are in need of its greater memory capacity, it'll allow you to run older plugins.

Re: Plugins (or standalone versions) for 64bit PSP??
Thanks! I am going to bookmark this discussion in case I decide to purchase that. Thus far I have not noticed a difference in PSP 2018 32 and 64-bit versions. What am I missing? Rarely do I use PSP for photo editing. My work is 99% creating and editing banners, etc. etc.. Is there a chart posted anywhere comparing the two versions' capabilities?

Re: Plugins (or standalone versions) for 64bit PSP??
I think you may be missing the point. The two versions -- 32 bit and 64 bit -- are identical to all intents and purposes. The differences are not so much a matter of one having different functions from the other. The differences flow from the difference all programs have, depending on whether they are 32 bit or 64 bit. As LeviFiction pointed out above, old plug-ins/filters are mostly 32 bit and will only work in a 32 bit program like the 32 bit version of PSP (unless you use a bridging program like Launchbox).
One notable weakness of all 32 bit programs is that they are limited in the amount of RAM they can effectively use. Even if you have, say, 32 GB of RAM on your computer, a 32 bit program will not be able to use more than about 3 GB of it. That's where the 64 bit version of PSP comes in: it can use up to all of the RAM in your computer if needed.
So the bottom line is that if the things you normally produce require you to use 32 bit plug-ins, then you should use the 32 bit version of PSP (unless you get Launchbox). But if speed or the more efficient use of larger amounts of RAM is more important to you, then use the 64 bit and forget about the 32 bit plug-ins.
