simple squeeze issue

Post by Stoneprod »

I edited a project with my avid, and using sorenson squeeze converted it to a larg DVD file, I then loaded it up on DVDWS and selected a "good quality DVD' which I believe is 90 minutes. The "size required" then showec 4.1

However DVDWS tells me that the file is to big for the DVD, its true that the actual file I imported was 5.1GB. and I am aware that it must be around 4.4 but I thought that selected a lower quality setting on DVDWS would fix this problem and convert it down?

Any suggestions on how to simply squeeze this 5.1 down to 4.4 using DVDWS?

Thanks,
Pete

In the EDIT step, there are VIDEO and AUDIO tabs. Both of those tabs have an option called "Convert to disc template" -- make sure you check that option box to have DWS2.x convert your source files to your project settings...

Hey folks,

I have source files that are appoximately 6.5 GB. when I check the "convert to disc template" it adds .1 GB for every clip I do it to. I even had to resort to removing clips from the dvd to try and get it to fit, but no luck. What am I doing wrong? I need to get 6.5GB down to 4.4 GB. What do I do?

thanks,

Hey,

I think all that you need to do is be sure in the EDIT section of DVDWS be sure that the "convert to disk template" is checked in both the video and audio tab.

Next in the Finish menu click on the dick templates drop down box and select probably the 120 minutes option. This should convert it down to a worakble size, however 6.5 might be too big and then you would ahve to either use a dual side DVD or reduce your quantity of video.

Good luck

It's a question of bitrate. Lower bitrate = smaller file.

Higher bitrate = higher quality = more disc space = lower compression = less playing time.

Lower bitrate = lower quality = less disc space = higher compression = more playing time.
Here's a handy Bitrate Calculator.

Where are these tabs located on the EDIT step? I've looked in both the VIDEO and AUDIO folders, and don't see any options at all...

Carole,

When you have a video on your timeline, you should see VIDEO/AUDIO/SUBTITLE tabs.

The Convert to disc template option is under the VIDEO and AUDIO tab

The box "Convert to disc template" also tells you something about your video.

If its blank that means that your video is already DVD compliant and so there is no need to convert it to the current disc template (Unless you have a specific reason to do so - e.g. reduce its size to fit)

If it has a tick in the box already - it will also be greyed out so that you cannot remove the tick - then this tells you that your video is NOT compliant and WILL be converted.

Im a little confused

when you click on Convert to disc template does that not tell Ulead to compress the file again to there codec within the new settings of the template.

So compressing before hand in Sorensen Squeeze would have been a waste of time?
