Using MovieFactory 3 with Dazzle 150 analog-digital converte
I am converting all of my 8MM tapes to digital, through a Dazzle 150 analog-digital converter, hooked up thru a 2.0 USB (I don't have an internal video conversion card). It came with Pinnacle Studio 9 (which I hate). I want to use my MovieFactory program for download and production, but I can't get the program to recognize the Dazzle 150 converter. Is there a way to get it recognize the unit, or am I stuck with using the Studio 9. Incidentally, it won't recognize my Sony DVR 101 digital video camera either. Right now I download my DVR 101 video thru the Pixela program (another very bad program) that came with the camera, and then do all my editing and movie production thru MovieFactory. Would appreciate any help you can give me on getting MovieFactory to recognize either on of these. It sure would make the process a lot easier.

What version of MF are you using?
MovieFactory 3 with the 3.4 (I think it is) patch.
What format does the Pinnacle software record the video in as.
Outputting in MPEG-2.
You may be able to capture in Pinnacle, then close the program, open
up MF and import the videos.
Already tried that. Problem is, Pinnacle brings it in as one long MPEG and tags the clips with it's own system. It can break the clips out so you can edit. When I bring it over to MF, it doesn't recognize the clip sets, so it's one long video, with no edit capability.
How are you connecting the Sony DVR 101 unit to the computer?
USB 2.0.
I notice that all the info in MF keeps talking about hooking up with fire wire, but I don't have anything that runs on firewire, only USB 2.0.
I can't figure out why, when I go to the capture screen, it won't recognize my camera or the 150. The only option it gives in the source is a Cirrus Logic USB-DVR2 source.

Pinnacle acquired Dazzle a while back and kept a few of its hardware products. The DVC150 being one of them.
DMF will not capture through the DVC150 as it has a proprietary MPEG encoding chip for capture. Native capture mode was MPEG with LPCM audio. You will have to capture through the Pinnacle software or, if you can find it, the old Dazzle software which included MovieStar and also a simple capture utility DVXLKSTest.exe (or something like that) which worked well enough. The old software also offered an option to transcode the audio from LPCM to MPEG. It also saved in maximum 2 GB segments and had a playback/editing script with an .MZL extension. You may want to search your hard drive for MZL files as well to see if the "original files are there somewhere. You can open the file in notepad to determine the location.
You can also try editing the files with VideoReDo as it is compatible with the files created by the DVC150.
Also search this forum for additional information regarding the DVC150 and also the DCS200. I had answered some posts a long time ago about various issues with this device on the Ulead forum.

Thanks phd,
That's kind of what I figured. I think the best thing for me to do with the 8MM conversion task is to just go ahead and use the Pinnacle program for that. My original intent was to just do a simple data conversion, which it will do. It would have just been nice to be able to use my MF proram for the edit.
I am still curious why my MF program will not recognize my Sony 101. It should, but I've gone round and round with it and it won't give. It's not that big a deal. Like I said, now I just download with the Pixela and then do my edit with the MF.
If you have any thoughts on that, let me know. Otherwise, I really appreciate the help you have given.
Thanks,
Bob
