I have been working on a project for a month now, and yesterday I spent about 10 more hours on it. The project is about 2 hours long and has hundreds of links.
When I was done yesterday I checked and all was good. Today the program does not relink anything from the hard drive, it is the same hard drive and nothing has been changed, updated or downloaded in my computer.
After so much work has gone into this project, I am begining to get nervous, is there anything that I can do to solve this.
I played some videos from the hard drive that is being used for this project and everything plays fine, so the hard drive is working 100%.

A VS relinking error message normally tells you exactly what paths and files it's looking for. Do these paths and files exist and if so did you point VS to these paths and files?luigy39 wrote:Today the program does not relink anything from the hard drive.
VS will relink if the source folders have changed as long as the videos have exactly the same size and properties - VS appears to be less picky about size and properties when relinking photos. To relink automatically, you just need to point VS to the new source folders.
If VS cannot relink files automatically then you may be required to relink manually which would be a pain in the case of "hundreds of links". Sometimes I have to relink some of the files, save the VSP, and then reopen it and relink the remaining files.

Re: Videostudio does not relink
Can we also assume that when you say 'hard drive', you mean an external hard drive connected via USB to your computer, where you have stored all your video? If so, you have to be aware that if you have closed your computer and opened it without that hard drive first connected, and then connected another hard drive or stick drive, then the latter might have been assigned the same drive letter as your original external hard drive. On getting the relink message, therefore, you would need to navigate to our hard drive with its new drive letter and relink then.
You can also go into Control Panel > Administrative Tools and assign a permanent letter to that specific external hard drive, to avoid this problem in future.

Hi luigy39
You seem to indicate that re-linking is normal for you and occurs quite often?

Re-linking Video -- we can choose any video type provided the duration is longer than the original.
Care should be taken when choosing the correct file.

It's more complicated than that as successful video relinking depends on factors such as whether the VSP was created by an older version of VS; whether the speed of the video clip was changed; and whether filters were applied.lata wrote:Re-linking Video -- we can choose any video type provided the duration is longer than the original.

Re: Videostudio does not relink
my 2 cents are, periodically save the vsp as "versions" (and backup them), never constantly as a single project.

I was not looking at the different edits or problems that cause re-linking not to work.tletter wrote:It's more complicated than that as successful video relinking depends on factors such as whether the VSP was created by an older version of VS; whether the speed of the video clip was changed; and whether filters were applied.lata wrote:Re-linking Video -- we can choose any video type provided the duration is longer than the original.

I was saying that we can re-link to a video file of any format providing the video is longer than the original video.
We do not have to choose the same / actual video clip requesting a re-link, but should take care when browsing for our file to make sure we select the correct one.
