Re: Does anyone get image thumbnail icons on .pspimage files
mounsey re your 2 points.
1/ I never do Window updates. Ever!
2/ I have never done a PSP update unless there is something in it that addresses a problem I'm having.
And if it is a PSP issue then why have I lost the ability to also see Photoline files/thumbnails?
It's a PITA issue that I wish someone could figure out.

That last point is particularly one which I think people should pay attention to. Blaming PSP for an issue that is only appearing in a Windows app (i.e., Windows Explorer) and also affects another program other than PSP does not make any sense to me.bruce1951 wrote:mounsey re your 2 points.

If you have an unpatched version of Windows then that may well be your problem.
Honestly it's just ridiculous.

Re: Does anyone get image thumbnail icons on .pspimage files
OK.. so HERE's a weird further development. Not directly related (as not a pspimage thumbnail issue) but definitely another Corel / Windows (10.x) oddity!
When I open a *PDF* document (which are in NO WAY associated as file types to Corel, or PaintShop on my system) - the icon (on my taskbar) for that open file...
... is the Corel "Pspimage" one !! (i.e. the teal/blue camera icon, on white).
W T actual F ?!?!!
John.

Re: Does anyone get image thumbnail icons on .pspimage files
PS here's what I see when I right-click on the taskbar icon (for an open *PDF* file).
Further notes..
a) "PDF" (as an extension) is 100% associated with Adobe Acrobat PDF Opener/Viewer
b) Individual PDF documents (unopened, on my Windows 10.x desktop) have the correct, standard "PDF" (Adobe) file icon
.. it's only when they are opened that the Corel filetype icon appears from nowhere! (nb. it doesn't do this on other applications or file types).
Probably unrelated to the pspimage thumbnails issue (lack of) - but I thought I'd lob this one into the thread too.

Re: Does anyone get image thumbnail icons on .pspimage files
Your icon cache maybe corrupted.
Easiest way to fix it is probably with the winaero customisation tool. Or just Google Windows 10 icon cache rebuild.
It's just the icon right? If it had the correct icon everything would be fine?

Re: Does anyone get image thumbnail icons on .pspimage files
That's correct - just the icon. The oddity being that it is fine (correct) when on desktop - only *opened* PDFs showing the PaintShop icon on the taskbar. #weird!
I'll try the Icon Cache Rebuild again and let you know thanks.

Re: Does anyone get image thumbnail icons on .pspimage files
FWIW.
I rarely use PSP now. But I do have many PSPImage files still in my system. (PSPx8 is still on my computer and will open images if I click on them). At one stage I lost all my PSP and Photoline thumbnails. Just had the generic icon instead. I did some 'fiddling' and regained the PSP thumbnails but not my Photoline ones.
Against my better judgement the other day I updated my FireFox. Guess what? I have now, once again, lost the PSPImage thumbnails. What's the connection?
I have also lost Administration rights on the same computer. So maybe, just maybe, there is something FireFox is doing that is upsetting the system.
I would be interested to know if others, with the thumbnail issue, are also using FireFox

I see pspimage thumbnails (pspimage saved as X4_X7 or 2018 compatible) :

Re: Does anyone get image thumbnail icons on .pspimage files
I moved to Pale Moon and quit using FF a couple of years ago when FF became so bogged down, so I cannot compare. However, do you think it could be one of your FF add-ons which updates along with FF that could be blocking those thumbnails?
Have you tried asking about it on the Mozilla Forums?

Only add on I have installed is Adblock Plus.
And why would it change Administration rights?
Hmmmm. There's more to this thumbnail issue than just Corel/PSP.
Google is full of folks complaining about it but no definitive answers.

Re: Does anyone get image thumbnail icons on .pspimage files
After you did this was there any change?
Open Control Panel, click on System. Now, on the left side, you will see Advanced system settings. Click on it.
Next, under the Advanced tab, click on Performance Settings. Under the Visual Effects tab, you will see Show thumbnails instead of icons. Make sure that this option is checked. Click on Apply and Exit.
Reboot.

Thanks Linda Lou. I've done those checks many times. They never seem to make any difference.

I agree completely. I feel it is a combination of the following factors:bruce1951 wrote:Only add on I have installed is Adblock Plus.

1. PaintShop Pro itself
2. Older versions (of PSP) conflicting with newer ones on the same system (i.e. remnants of / conflicts / etc.)
3. Windows 10.x
4. Windows Updates
