PSP 2018 and 32-bit plug-ins question

Post by cookie1234 »

I plan to buy a new computer and Best Buy tells me that most newer desktop computers have only 64-bit.

Some questions: Does that mean I won't be able to use the KPT filters? (I rely on them so heavily!)

Does Windows 10 on new computers run both 64 and 32 bit?

Does PSP 2018 have both 64 and 32 bit?

If the answer is "I'm out of luck" is there some type of conversion software so I'll be able to use my kpt filters (32-bit)?

A very good question for a subject that is confusing to many people. Modern computers do run a 64 bit OS but that is not a problem for the question you ask. A program such as PSP is sensitive to whether things like plugins are 32 bit or 64 bit. In other words, the 64 bit version of PSP will not usually run 32 bit plugins. Fortunately PSP comes with both 32 bit & 64 bit versions. Just install both versions & install your 32 bit plugins in the 32 bit PSP & you will be good.

To answer this specific issue you raised, 64bit operating systems run both 64bit and 32bit programs, so will run both the 32bit and 64bit versions of PSP. But a 64bit program cannot run a 32bit add-in program (like a 32bit plugin) and a 32bit program can't run a 64bit plugin. That's why you should be installing both the 32bit and 64bit versions of PSP - so that you can run your existing 32bit plugins and if you get some 64bit plugins you can run them with the 64bit PSP.

I thank both of you for answering. But does PSP 2018 come with both 32-bit and 64-bit? I looked over the info for PSP 2018 on the Corel site; and I only see mention of 64-bit.

The Trial version only comes in 64bit. The retail version installation files contain both. When you do the install you get a window asking if you want to install both 32bit and 64bit (Recommended), or just one or the other. Go with both, which I believe is already checked by default.
