No Audio. Had it before. Unknown Icon on clip.

Post by mbusselberg »

I have video that I was cutting segments out of. I may have done something accidentally to cause this problem but there is no audio from any of the clips. The video plays fine with audio in normal player and audio worked fine previously. Every clip has the Icon that I have attached and I don't recognize it. What does this icon mean?

Hi

That icon as far as I know indicates Smart Proxy files have been created for the clip
Go to Settings Smart Proxy File Manager and you should see a file with a similar name.

Some edits will remove / mute the audio, do the clips show a mute symbol?
Small red speaker icon?

There are two playback modes, Clip and Project, are they both silent or does one play audio?

No. There is no mute icon. I have been using this software for years and I have never seen anything like this. Both are silent.

What are the properties of your video file.
Right click a clip and choose properties, you can create an image of that panel to attach to your post.
Where did you get the video, camcorder, downloaded from internet , Iphone?

If you are using Mp4 or Mov do you have the QuickTime Codec installed on the pc?

As I mentioned in the original post, audio worked before. So codecs are installed. I got the video from the internet. Audio layer is mp3 format. I simply went back to working on it after not working on it for a while and when I went back, the audio didn't work.

I would suspect that mp3 is using the Lame codec and that can cause audio problems.
I do not know why the audio played ok in the past for that particular clip?

You can try setting the audio level from 100% to 99%, that trick sometimes works.
Otherwise you should convert the video to a more editable format.

There is a Lame Codec available somewhere on the internet, I guess you could try that?

Upload a sample to a sharing site and I will try on my pc.

Hmmm. I just discovered something interesting. There are several parts to this video that I downloaded. The first two don't work but all the rest do. However, the ones that work have a different audio encoding (aac). I am guessing perhaps you might be on to something. You suggested using a different mp3 codec? How do I configure VideoStudio to do that? I also could not determine whether you were suggesting I use the lame codec or not use it.
