"This format is only supported by..." Error keeps popping up

Post by nicodemoscain »

Hi. New here and having issues.

So I've been hunting around the internet and mostly this board trying to find a fix for the "This format is only supported by Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 10" thing I get when trying to render a video. I also get the "Frame X.XXX Error" message that changes each time I try to render a video. Either I'm not looking in the right spot or a fix just does not exist. I'm using a new copy of Video Studio X9 that is fully registered and as far as I can tell fully updated. Version 19.7.0.12

I'm trying to render an MP4 that I downloaded from my YouTube account and added an intro and edited some parts out and render it to the same size and format in MP4. I've had several successful renders while doing this, and have had a couple of times where it has told me the error message. When I got the error message, I chose a different size or output and it rendered just fine. Now, I cannot get a file to render no matter what output I choose.

I'm using a HP Pavilion 15 with an i7-7500U 2.7GHz, 6GB RAM, Intel HD 620 Integrated graphics, and Windows 10. Any help or hotfix that would get rid of this besides upgrading to X10.5?

Thanks.

Did you add either voice or music tracks? If so try disabling them and then render the project. I've noted that some projects cause VS rendering to silently fail unless the voice and music tracks are rendered separately from the other tracks.

On that particular video, no. I didn't add anything besides an intro and one of the transitions that come with the program.

I did find a workaround for now though: I finally found that converting the mp4's to WMV's will work, but finding a converter that took less than 30 minutes was hard until I found another post on these forums that led me to Format Factory, which will convert mp4's to WMV's in 5 to 10 minutes. It's beautiful. Now, I have no problem rendering to mp4's anymore...or at least so far yet.

I also submitted this as a ticket to Corel and was transferred to a technician who said this:
It appear that you have a bundle license. I'm afraid to say that bundle license has limitation. One of the limitation is creating a MP4 file.
Which isn't true since I'm rendering to mp4's all the time now. It was just the format of the input file that the program was having an issue with for whatever reason. They also made sure to try to upsell me to 10.5, which I've heard fixes this problem. Nice. All of which I think is their way of saying that they can't fix it so they will blame something else. I expected better Corel...

I have no problems now, like I said. I just don't like the extra step I need to take to render a video the way I want, but the fact that X9 saves me so much time and effort than the X3 I was using before, I can't complain much. I've been a Corel guy for 13 years now and even though this is a bump in the road, I'm still satisfied with the overall product.

Hi
I would suspect it’s the codec used in the downloaded file, either audio or video codec.
Most download managers will re-code the video during download and it may be those settings that need a tweak

Have you tried using a different download manager?
I used the Torch browser that seemed to do a good job.

I'm not much worried about it anymore now that I have figured out a better way to record my videos. I was only needing to upload them to YouTube in the first place because my old laptop wasn't capable of recording my videos so I would stream everything to YouTube and download them from there. I finally took the plunge and got serious about my videos and bought a new laptop. Now I can record them into any format I wish and everything seems to be working just fine for the time being. It was still just a mess that I got stopped like I did in the first place.
