And the very first launch after installation is always extremely slow since the program builds the various databases it requires.
Moreover, if you close VS and try to reopen it immediately, it usually won't work because the Background Process for 'Corel VS2018' in Task Manager will usually continue to work for a little while. So give it 20 or 30 seconds to close before you try reopening VS. If for some reason the background process does not end, then of course right click it in Task Manager and select End Process.

VS 2018 as well as all other versions of VS do not require an internet connection to load, in fact if you disconnect your internet, the program will load much faster. It is only Triple Scoop and Muserk that are server based and therefore require an internet connection if you use themAlaskanDruid wrote:Wait... did you just said that this basically offline software (there's absolutely no reason for it to use the internet/network for any reason at all), requires an -always connected- machine in order to actually run?

Re: VideoStudio 2018 - Is it worth the 64$ upgrade price
I'm kind of curious about 11... When I was forced to go up from V6 to V8, V8 would not install correctly (even after Corel support & remoting via multiple session they couldn't even have it run on my main, A 2016 Dell XPS i7) and I had to wait until 9 came out so I could even use VS again (as V6 will not run on win10)
I followed the link above but other than it being an upgrade offer, I don't really see any detailed information about what been *IMPROVED*.. can anyone elaborate whats better or changed?
The 3d titler... how in depth is it? ...I currently use an old win 98 machine that I still run MGFX webtricty on and have been on relying for it for 3D for 2 decades now... which it does good but kind of a PITA & machines only last so long considering it's almost 25 years old (LOL)
I see Corel stating 11 has improved performance for editing & rendering... I see it specifies NVIDIA is in the description now, but why? ...Is VS going to actually use the GPU in conjunction better with the CPU ... or did they just tweak the proxy system. I know when I monitor my system VS9 rarely utilizes the GPU while the CPU reads off the charts...

Re: VideoStudio 2018 - Is it worth the 64$ upgrade price
First of all, it is VS 2018 not 11
Locate and download the video studio -2018 pdf, pages 7-9 detail the supposed improvments/new features, like Lens Correction Tools, Split Screen Video and Template Creator, 3D Title Editor and Motion Titles ( a cut down version of the standalone Corel Motion Studio 3D), new pan and zoom, New Blue Titler Pro 5, the list goes on.
But when all is said and done, it is up to the individual user to decide whether or not the new features/enhancements are worth the upgrade price, unfortunately downloading the trial won't achieve much because of the imposed restrictions on trials

Re: VideoStudio 2018 - Is it worth the 64$ upgrade price
Ok I started with VS X7 and the upgrade to VS X8 went reasonably well. I suspect your issue was caused by something else that could have been resolved.OBB wrote:I'm kind of curious about 11... In my experience though, M$ Windows is a real PITA when it comes to installing software. There can be issues with the installation and there can be some nasty which you may have picked up. The issues could be caused by some innocent software product you installed or an update which didn't go as smoothly as you thought that it might have done. The messages you get from Windows are all too often insufficient to identify and correct the problem.
My way of dealing with this is to periodically completely wipe my main drive and install everything from scratch once more. It's a great way of cleaning up a computer and enforcing a good backup system.
Recently I rebuilt a friend's laptop. Rather than just backup all the documents, etc., first, I installed Windows on a separate drive and proved that I could install everything successfully for her. Once done I was then able to backup everything and then wipe her main drive. I'd suggest that you give this a ty rather than blame Corel for your software not installing.
I mentioned earlier in this thread that any new features are only of any use if you wish to use them. Since then at least one poster has confirmed that VS 2018 works faster than VS 11. If these *IMPROVEMENTS* are for you, then consider upgrading. Otherwise continue to use your current version.OBB wrote:I followed the link above but other than it being an upgrade offer, I don't really see any detailed information about what been *IMPROVED*.. can anyone elaborate whats better or changed?

Personally I'm looking forward to using some of the new features for a couple of projects that are already in development. At least one of them was on my wishlist of VS11.

Re: VideoStudio 2018 - Is it worth the 64$ upgrade price
Messing with VS2018. The 3D title is ok and gives a different look in titles. NewBlue FX Titler Pro 5 takes a while to load when you first click on it, and to use, give your computer time to "catch up".
I personally love the Split Screen Template Creator. Really nice new feature for putting a lot of videos/images in your own personally designed template. None of that "cookie cutter, I know you used VS" look. Lens Correction with GoPro presets to help in getting rid of that "fish eye" look.
There is a lot more to explore and see what it can do, but I also like the new "look" of the UI, especially the ability to resize the tracks to any size you want.
Is it worth $64? That depends if you need the new features. Me? Yeah, it's worth it. It gives you new creative ideas for your video. And it comes out to be a little over $5 per month if you consider it as a subscription. Not bad at all!
But in the end, it's a tool, a very good tool that can produce great videos. It's up to the user though to do this.
Still don't need 360 video though....

I just bought X10.5 on January 16. WIth only 2 weeks and a few days passed I feel I should expect - well, a free upgrade. If I were a year into X10.5 I'd pay the $64 I think but I've only had time to just toy with one video while learning how to use VideoStudio.

You should contact Corel Support, I would have thought they may replace X10 with the new version?
You can only ask?
Besides being in your 30 day return policy

I don't think they will let you keep X10, so get your money back and then get VS2018.

I got my money back on x10.5 without any issues at all. I didn't uninstall x10.5 because 2018 says it is an upgrade so I was concerned about that. I'm not too confident about not losing some of the plugins.

There is a good video on YouTube comparing the rendering performance of VS10 vs. VS2018 which shows that the latter does use the GPU whilst making lesser use of the CPU yet resulting in a significant reduction of MPEG-4 rendering time.Desertsweeper wrote:certain that the new VS2018 is slower for me on an Nvidia platform. Although the video is in French, it's easy to follow what's going on even if your don't speak that language (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kPcwXec6Z3w). tletter

That is EXCELLENT news.Desertsweeper wrote:And.....drumroll.....proDAD Mercalli plugin is now working on multiple clips!!
What about overlapping clips? i.e where you use the transition fade between two clips that have both been stabilised?
