Can't play a project back VS 10X

Post by reo »

Have a project of relatively short clips. Each clip plays back fine, but when I go to play the entire project, I only get a short pfft sound and no movement. Tried trimming off the beginning of the first clip. It made no difference. Interestingly, at least to me, is that the project rendered with no problem. The source files were on my HDD, and were camera video files. Properties attached.

Thoughts? I'm new to VS. Used Pinnacle for years, and am finding VS quite frustrating, since things don't always work as expected, like volume controls, but that's another story.

Welcome to the forum!

As for your project, can we assume you have the Quicktime .mov codec on your computer? It doesn't come with Video Studio. It would also be useful to know what format you are successfully rendering your project to.

Yes, I have the codec to play back the source videos. Bit of trivia - Quicktime, as well others, are containers or wrappers, and contain streams with many different codecs. That's one thing that makes playback tricky sometimes. In my case, the codec is H264.

I rendered to MP4.

Thanks for the prompt reply!

A while ago there was a security issue with QuickTime player resulting in Apple abandoning QuickTime
However installing the Codec only does not affect security afaik.

I have video from my Canon 7D whose properties look the same as you show.
I have no problems playing those clips using X10

However my old pc struggled and I had to use Smart Proxy to improve timeline playback

1 / Try using Smart Proxy
2 / Uninstall QT and re-install the codec without QT Player. Although I assume you have already done that?

Some info on You Tube regarding QuickTime, view this post

Found an older version of QT, 7.7 something, and uninstalled it. My files still play good...) but the same problem is there. I'll try to edit another project later tonight and see if the problem repeats. Thank you for the QT comments.
