New to the forum. Musician by trade however learning slowly about camera work.
Apologies if this has been asked or another thread, but a quick question.
We,ve been filming in 1080I using a sony camera for live on stage band work.
Obviously the video is showing lines. Can some one confirm this, I added the 9 min clip to the timeline using Corel X10, exported it as a mpeg2 file. the VIdeo quality was a huge improvement.
My friend argues that video needs to be rendered before going into a video editing program, all I did was add it to the time line and exported it out, nothing fancy and it looked great.
I,m a full on newbie, but slowly learning.
thaqnk you for your patience

Re: Quick Question about 1080I
Hi slayerbear
And welcome to the forums…..
Can you give a little more info regarding the original video clips properties?
Start a new project
Insert the video to the top track.
A panel will appear asking that you match the project properties.
If you choose “detail”, the righthand panel shows the video properties.
Copy and paste those to your post.
Then choose Yes.
You can also view the properties by right clicking the clip on the timeline and choosing Properties.
Create an image of that panel to attach to your post.

Re: Quick Question about 1080I
Could you also please explain what you mean by "lines". Vertical lines? Horizontal lines"? Throughout the whole clip? Or do you mean sort of shimmering lines as the camera pans across the stage? But presumably this is gone once you have produced the new mpeg2?slayerbear wrote:Obviously the video is showing lines. Can some one confirm this
It might also be useful to know why you chose mpeg-2 as the output file and indeed what the properties of the output file are. But as Trevor/lata has already said, it would first be useful to know the Properties of your original 1080i files so we could make sensible suggestions about whether mpeg-2 is the proper output format.
Your friend is wrong. The whole point of a video editing program is to get the original video ready, but cutting bits out, correcting other bits, adding titles, filters, voiceovers etc as necessary, before rendering to a final format (which might be the same format as the original video). My friend argues that video needs to be rendered before going into a video editing program, all I did was add it to the time line and exported it out, nothing fancy and it looked great.

Re: Quick Question about 1080I
I have a Panasonic GF3 that will record at 1080 50i or 1080 25p. I did some experimentation early on and quickly learned that for a computer 50i was not desirable due to the horizontal lines produced from the 'interlacing'.
If you are producing something for broadcast on a TV channel, stick with 25p if your camera can't record at 50p. UK broadcasters will convert the 'progressive' video easily to interlace and prefer 25p for this purpose.
I have other cameras now that will record at 1080 50p or 60p. This produces smoother footage for computers, but isn't desirable for TV broadcasts. They still prefer 25p. An exception would be 4K UHD broadcasts.
