Last Tool Used
Hi. If I open an image then the last tool that I used is selected, which is OK for me, but for example if the crop was last used then the tool is active which means that the image is reduced in size to show the "cropping" area and the crop toolbar is visible. Is there a way of opening an image without this happening ?

Re: Last Tool Used
What tool would you want PSP to default to upon opening an image?
I don't think there is a way to change this default behavior, someone who knows better might correct me here but I don't know of any way to do that and it's not readily apparent in the Customize options or the general preferences. Either a) just remember to change your tool before opening a new image (hit "K" to use the pick tool before opening a new image) or use a script as either a pre-processor or instead of the regular open command.
When you open a new image the open command window has a section for a "pre-processing" script. This script will run on the image as it opens. If that script selects a new tool, that tool will get selected. You can also record a script that first changes the tool then opens the "Open" command. Then just run this script when opening a new image instead of using the default open command.
Of course, I could just be crazy, after all, scripts seem to be my answer to everything.

Re: Last Tool Used
FWIW I have, over the years, gotten into the habit of parking PSP on the Pan tool. It's now just a habit of returning to the Pan tool after every task and on closing PSP.

Re: Last Tool Used
Unlike Kathy and Bruce I don't do the same. But both of your comments made me think that once you become aware of a program's little quirks (by which I mean quirks and not actual bugs) then perhaps the best approach is to do as they do and make a simple adjustment to your workflow that compensates for the quirks. And I would suspect that every program out there has a little procedure or process that - at least for some users - would be considered to be a quirk that doesn't quite suit their expectations or workflow. In real life, there really isn't a true "one size fits all". But in most cases people can make the size work with just a little adjustment on their part. Just a thought....

FWIW again!! I also use Photoline and do the same return to the Pan tool. It may not suit everyone but I find the Pan tool a rather harmless place to park between actions. A simple habit can be applied to more than one application.

FWIW - NOT again from me.... I think you would likely be happy if you could find a way to delete the duplicate of the "FWIW again" post. Unless, of course, you meant "again again!".bruce1951 wrote:FWIW again!!

FWIW again again!!
When you park your car do you put the hand brake on? (Emergency brake).
Users need a work flow/habit that allows them to 'park' on a 'harmless' tool that wont do any damage if accidentally invoked. How many times did I 'parked' on the selection tool before I woke up to what was going on when I started work? Hence the search and resulting habit of using the Pan tool. Imagine starting a session with the Crop tool active.
No more FWIW's. Promise.

Re: Last Tool Used
Just in case anyone else is confused by all these "again agains", I cannot tell a lie: It was me who removed the repeated post above by bruce1951... People often get excited about their posts and when they don't immediately appear, hit the Submit key again (and sometimes again!!)JoeB wrote:I think you would likely be happy if you could find a way to delete the duplicate of the "FWIW again" post.

Ken I have no issues. Sometimes my internet connection goes on holidays. And then I get confused and wonder if I even hit submit. It's an age thing!!!!
