Audio Filters
I can't seem to add audio filters or do any other kind of audio editing on my projects. The original video is AVCHD format. I assume that I should be able to drag and drop audio filters in the same way I do video filters, but since it won't work, I'm not certain. I've also tried editing the audio using the surround sound editor to no avail. I'd like to increase the bass and reduce the "tinniness" of my original audio. Any suggestions?

Re: Audio Filters
If you are dragging -- or attempting to drag -- the audio filters into the video timeline, I am pretty sure this will not work. I believe you have to split the audio from the video and insert it in one of the audio timelines, and drag the audio filters there. You also have to put VS into audio view.
I can't be more certain about this since I never use the audio filters that come with VS. Instead I separate the audio stream, edit that in an external editor and reinsert in one of the audio timelines of VS.
Hopefully someone who actually does what you want will jump in here and shoot me down if I'm wrong.

Re: Audio Filters
If you are using the Audio Filters available within VS, you do not drag and drop
As Ken has advised, you need to split the Audio from the video, right click on clip and select Split Audio, the audio will now be placed in either the voice track or a music track, right click on the audio track and select Audio Filter, highlight a filter from the available filters then select Add, click on Options, if not greyed out, not all filters can be adjusted, if available, make any alterations you require then select OK. The filter has now been applied to the audio track

Re: Audio Filters
Thanks, guys. I tried this again and it still isn't working for me. I can add audio filters to music or other files, but not video--even with the audio split. I switched to waveform view mode to see if that made a difference, but it didn't help. The native video is AVCHD. I tried adding in a WMV video and I am able to add audio filters just fine. I guess I'll either have to edit the audio externally or change the video to a different file type. Seems like a real pain.

Re: Audio Filters
You aren't by any chance using the trial version of VS X10? That is severely limited and mostly restricted to standard definition video.

Re: Audio Filters
I do not think audio filters can be used on video with surround sound
Video using stereo, split audio and apply filters, but not for surround sound

Re: Audio Filters
Oh dear - I have the same problem. I have some clips with strong wind noise and I want to try to reduce that. I also cannot apply ANY filters to my standard HD video track - it's greyed out whether I right click on the video track or if I split the audio to another track. Neither can I drag and drop an effect to either the video clip of split audio. Surely this cannot be a limitaion?

Re: Audio Filters
Hi
Try changing the project properties to use Stereo not Surround Sound

Re: Audio Filters
That’s sounds interesting! Not sure how to do that. Looked in properties and don’t see anyway to change the audio format. Neither am I sure how to find out what the current movie settings are set to. Could you point me in the right direction please. Thank you.

Re: Audio Filters
Hi
Settings – Project Properties (Alt+Enter)
Edit
Compression tab, at the bottom are the audio settings
If you are using surround Sound will show as 3/2 (L,R,CR,SR)
Change to 2/0 (L,R)

Re: Audio Filters
Thanks Trevor - found it! Current settings are showing as: Audio Type AAc, Fr 48000, BitRate 256, Mode Stereo (but greyed out).
Updated this morning:
The important thing is to be able to edit audio in future projects. So started a new project (in case it was because I started with a Fastflick) and added some ordinary video (that I have three years worth to edit!). As I added the clip I had the message to match project with media type so I said yes. Although I can now see what you typed Trevor and I am now able to change the audio compression, it still won't allow me to add an audio effect. Left the compression changed, started another new project, replied No to match project and although now the audio compression is already as stereo, I still can't add an audio effect. Repeated the process after detachng audio with same result. So seems I can't add audio effects to any of my existing video. Not good.

Re: Audio Filters
Can't find any other reference to this on the web-board - can't believe I have unique video footage from my video camera. Wonder if I should upgrade to VS2018???

Re: Audio Filters
Hi
I do not know what is going on here, maybe something different to Surround Sound issue.
I have attached a project file which should open using X10.5
First rename the file by removing the .txt
If you are asked to change / match the project properties please select NO.
You should be able to add your video files.
Maybe I missed the point here and was concentrating on project properties.
If your files use AVCHD . MTS and are surround sound then you would not be able to add a Audio Filter.
When you add a clip to the timelines and see the message to match properties, choose Details, copy and paste the text from the righthand panel to your post.
If they are Surround Sound then your only option is to convert the sound to Stereo?
You could do that by creating a new sound file from each video clip.

Re: Audio Filters
Hi Trevor - thanks for the input. Here's the detail from all my clips. I think it IS the issue you are describing. Looks like I'm stuck being unable to use the audio filters with my existing clips - thank fully I don't use them very much anyway. I also just upgraded to VS2018 and have the same issue from the get go. Shame - never come across this before in Pinnacle Studio, but there we are I guess!
