Screencap ...The .3 FPS hiccups
While I've been using screencap for quite awhile now, there are times when it works just fine for most things but, for some other things 'it doesn't work so pretty well'
Is there anyway to use screencap in any other format besides .wmv? or set capture at 29.97fps? ... If so, how?
As far as I can tell from its settings it looks like the answer is NO & the .wmv format is at 20, 25 & 30fps only...
There are many bits & pieces I will record bits from here & there, load into X9 and make small 2,5,10 second loops etc... And I realize the frame drop of the .wmv capture at 25fps Vs. 29.97fps causes frame sync hiccups. So it made we wonder about the other option of capturing at 30fps and if I would still suffer the same issue from being above 29.97fps... Or even 60fps...
I know there is professional options (Vegas, AE & etc...) but they are a mile above my budget... About the only other option I keep running into on my searches is Movavi studio pro and the reviews seem to vary wildly,,, And then there is a plethora of options as freeware/sharewell as well but so far the few I tried seem to put me right back into the same boat ...as well as every single one came with malwares when tested thru the studio test machine...
Just looking for some insight... before spending the $50

Re: Screencap above 25fps
Hi
Live Screen Capture only records to WMV
We can set the frame rate to 15, 25 or 30fps, use the down arrow to view the context menu.
The maximum resolution we can capture is the resolution of our monitor, so a laptop will be smaller video size than a HD monitor, if that makes sense

Re: Screencap above 25fps
Kind of what I'm getting at but only part of the answer... I only capture from my main desktop... And it's always full screen at 1080p (or higher)
I used to do it by fire-wire from an external machine but sadly I no longer have a machine with fire-wire built on-board anymore... But I do have an add on FW card but my PCI slots aren't compatible (the new machines are all PCIe, I've tried using it with an adapter bet won't run). My old setup sync'd & captured perfectly frame for frame and never got the capture hiccup...
Are there any other options out there to get past the .3 FPS hiccup when capturing?

Re: Screencap ...The .3 FPS hiccups
30 fps is usually the shorthand way of saying "29.97 fps". But I simply don't know if the wmv used by Screencap really gives an exact 30 fps or the more accurate NTSC 29.97. I think you would need to test this yourself by subjecting a 30 fps wmv to a detailed codec analysis in a program such as MediaInfo: https://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo/Download/Windows

You could try the following free program
http://www.nchsoftware.com/capture/inde ... lIEALw_wcB
This program allows you to record in avi, wmv.flv, mpg and mp

Re: Screencap ...The .3 FPS hiccups
I use Ashampoo Snap which, while not free, is pretty cheap and does a good job. It also allows capture in a variety of formats -- though mp4 captures are said to be the dread 30 fps rather than 29.97 fps!
I wonder, Robert, if the Debut program you recommend says the same thing for its own mp4 captures?

Re: Screencap ...The .3 FPS hiccups
I have not used that program for many years, back in XP days, so never used it for any HD recordings, For normal Screen capture I use Camtasia 8 but even that only refers to 30 fps
Edit,
Just run a test with Camtasia, Using .mov quicktime profile there is a choice of frame rates from 8-60 fps, including 29.97 and 59.94

Re: Screencap ...The .3 FPS hiccups
You can use the Windows 10 native 'Game Bar' feature (pressing Win + G) as a screen capture tool (both screenshots and videos) without the need for any third-party software. However, it only works within an app, e.g. browser window, video player or VS. The Game Bar generates screenshots in PNG format and videos in MP4 format (FHD @ 30fps).OBB wrote:I know there is professional options (Vegas, AE & etc...) but they are a mile above my budget.

Camtasia works perfect!
I wish there were options like that in screencap...

Re: Screencap ...The .3 FPS hiccups
You get what you are prepared to pay for, Camtasia is not cheap, but it is good
Snagit also from Tech Smith should be just as good, it being the stand alone capture program and it is only 25% of the cost of Camtasia

Re: Screencap ...The .3 FPS hiccups
Gave Snagit (free version) a whirl yesterday (and the NCH free one above as well)... both had the same minuscule frame hiccup as screencap... I'm guessing they all simply utilize a variable frame rate when capturing & rounded up to 30fps which is what cause the hiccup...
Darn! Snagit seemed much more affordable than their Camtasia counterpart... $200 Vs. $40... Darnit... Darnit... Darnit...
Normally, I have no issue with screencap's frame hiccup but the frame glitch becomes even more noticeable after you render the raw capture into a final project or re-render the single capture to a format other than .wmv.
I also made a few different templates for re-rendering them and it seems to make no difference re-rendering to mp4 or mov.. Both compound the hiccup & when going with mp4, it dropped a bit of quality (slightly pixelated)
Any chance the 2018 version of Videostudio-U & screencap has any more robust features than previous versions? ...or at least capture in different formats or in 60fps maybe? ... I figure maybe simply capturing at 60fps, the hiccup would be a bit less noticeable?
