Cropping in PSP 2018
Q1: I've removed the Crop toolbar, now how do I remove the 'Thirds' grid?
Q2: Can I disable 'Maintain Aspect Ratio' as the default?
Q3: What is supposed to happen if I click Clear (4th icon from left)? Here, nothing happens.

Re: Cropping in PSP 2018
1) Right-click on the crop and deselect it from the context-menu
2) It should remember the settings from the last applied crop. So make a crop rectangle, deselect "Maintain Aspect Ratio" and accept the crop. Now it should no longer be default. Until you turn it back on anyway.
3) If you have an active crop rectangle on the image, clear should remove it. Effectively letting you start over.

Thanks, I''ll do that from now on. I was using the 'Clear' button, which fails:3) If you have an active crop rectangle on the image, clear should remove it. Effectively letting you start over.

Re: Cropping in PSP 2018
If I have an active crop rectangle on an image I can clear it either using the context menu, the clear button on the little toolbar, or the clear button on the main tool options bar.terrypin wrote:LeviFiction wrote:Thanks, I''ll do that from now on. Re: Cropping in PSP 2018
Terrypin is correct. Clear on the top toolbar does not clear an established crop rectangle, but clicking again on the image does clear it - I guess the assumption is that you want to clear the rectangle and redraw so that is when the old is erased and then new started.

Re: Cropping in PSP 2018
Puzzling that we are getting different results.
Typing 'winver' into the Run box I see mine is 'Version 1703 (OS Build 15063.850)'.
I think the term 'latest version' can be misleading, as not only do Windows 10 updates apparently get issued over days or possibly weeks but users can postpone them, sometimes inadvertently. For example, yesterday I had a notification pop up while I was in the middle of a tricky Excel operation, along the lines of "We have an important update we'd like you to pick up...". It offered a "Later" button which I hurriedly clicked. Just recalled that on reading the last posts here. So I'll reboot later today ... in the tentative hope that it might get PSP 2018 loading in less than its current 67 secs.
BTW, testing my trivial cropping issue again before composing this, there was a 5 second interval after clicking the Crop tool before it became available.
And after clicking Clear icon in the Tool Cropping Options, top left, which doesn't clear the rectangle for me, if I then click inside the rectangle that still sometimes doesn't clear it.

Re: Cropping in PSP 2018
Winver says Version 1709 (OS Build 16299.192)
Though I should note that I've never had an issue with the clear button not working. It's entirely possible this has to do with the UI redraw issues people have. That it does in fact clear the rectangle but the view doesn't update to reflect this. The interaction with the mouse forces an update. Hard to say as I can't test it though.

Re: Cropping in PSP 2018
If you allow the Floating Crop tool bar (below each image crop area ) then Clear at top and Clear on the Floating Crop Toolbar both work correctly.
I think terrypin is trying to make PSP look and work as closely as it can to Jasc PSP8 from which he upgraded. If he accepts the Floating Crop Toolbar (FCT) then there is no problem . It is not a great learning curve to use that FCT.

Re: Cropping in PSP 2018
Probably why it worked for me. I also had the floating toolbar active. I actually find it convenient to have the crop to new image button so close.hartpaul wrote:If you allow the Floating Crop tool bar (below each image crop area ) then Clear at top and Clear on the Floating Crop Toolbar both work correctly.

Yup, I can duplicate the issue by turning off the floating toolbar.
